my other thread went missing :-/
hi all im back,I dropped off my bike 24 days ago to get valve clearances, float heights, carb balance and fork seals.First things first I dropped it off on a saturday and he told me he will start work on it tuesday should be done by weekend great I thought. So week one was a bust he didnt do anything said he got snowed under with other jobs and the other mechanic on staff was sick fine I said. Week two was also a bust couldnt get through to him when I finally did he said he didnt have the work on bike started as parts hadnt arrived and he was very busy still fine I said. Week 3 rang him he had it compression test and was ok he was going start doing the valve clearances great he said he will have bike finished saturday. He txt me saturday and said bike ready so I rang him and said how much etc to find out he hadnt done the fork seals or even the break pads that I asked for him to do when I was on the phone to him. So he said ring him at 5 he might have it done. So I did and low and behold he didnt he doesnt open on mondays so tuesday rolled around and 5 o clock I collected the bike rang before I got there and he said its done. So got there and got the bill which worked out as €400 for labour and €128 for parts then an additional €70 for brake pads front and rear not fitted. Does this seem a bit steep all things considered? He also said my head stock bearings are going another €200 also really pissed me off is he scratched my right hand main fairing (they were new and mint when he got the bike) so when I paid the man I went off on my merry way and got on to a nice straight main road and the bike wouldnt go over 120km in 6th and seems to dislike going over 14krpm in general hard to explain the feeling I was getting in the saddle. Now the bike will tick over it usent for more than seconds maybe minutes if i was lucky but even when the bike had shite clearances carbs all over the shop it would pull to redline my heart is broken ive already 3000 spent 2000 of which has been repairs and as much as I love the bike I have to draw a line in the sand somewhere :-/ it doesnt want to come right at all

I drove 120kms today and its a bit better today but ita not liking the high revs its perfect up to 12-13 the makes no real effort to accelerate in a high gear. If you flonk it in low gears it wil redline kind of but it has weird surges or pulses if that makes sense. It eeked out about 140kph barely.

Sounds a bit like theres an inlet hose off & sucking air on the inlet side
Thats a lot of money & 200£ to do head stem bearings is over the top. I'd find another mechanic, a dealer would be cheaper & you'll get better service & genuine parts

Inlet hose? Like the rubber that the carbs sit into? im fairly good with service and repairs just dont have space or equipment at the moment, I serviced the bike myself and rebuit the carbs. This guy is a yamaha suzuki kawasaki approved garage whats worse

I think that works out to be 1200$ in aud. Bad customer service, taking forever to do a job, charging a 3rd of the bikes value to do a couple of basic servicing tasks. Other problems appear after leaving it with them. Yep sounds like a normal mechanic to me!!!
I will never EVER take my bikes to mech's anymore.

Check that all the hoses & lines are in place & that there aren't any open holes in the airbox, check that the inlet tube clamps are up tight, don't over tighten them they should be neat.
Check over all his work & make sure it's all back in place & nothing is hanging off.
If he changed the fuel filter, check it's running in the direction of flow or maybe it's a blocked up filter.

Theres two overflow hoses on my carbs thats bout it, I will check the inlets tomar while im at the brakes, I have a foam filter that you spray oil on in my airbox I couldnt get a standard one here for love nor money, he didnt change the fuel filter but I did about 100 miles ago when I serviced her so it shouldnt be blocked I also cleaned the mesh screen in the tank.

Check both sets of clamps are tight & that the carbies are set properly into the rubber tubes on the head & on the airbox.
Have a look at the plugs & see if they are dark damp or light & dry.
Check your Exup valve & cables are set with no slack & that it's actuating when it's revved, could be that, it will suffer up high if the valve stays closed & it'll run ok at low revs
Keep at it, you'll find it in the end, just elimination.

Undo the clamps on the carb boots as far as they will go, and then push the carbs in. You'll know when they're in properly because they won't move very much if at all. Airbox boots may be a challenge. If they do not seal or you can't get them on, set the idle screws to 2.5 turns out. If the airbox boots do go on and seal, start with idle screws 3 turns out and adjust as necessary.

Any issues where you cannot rev higher than x RPM, flat spots, are syncing/balancing issues.

the power valve was well out and had huge amount of play in it. I have adjusted it up to spec havent a chance to drive as I had to do my brake pads in front and the pistons all needed serious cleaning and I couldnt open the resovoir on handlebar one of the sscrews the head is mangled on it :( through the glass it looks full but my front brakes are very tight now can hardly push the bike :-/ and as you can see from the pics its a typically beautiful irish summers day!

I drove it a short distance and the powervalve adjustment made a huge difference. I was on the limiter in 2nd also 3rd there was a tiny little flat spot but It was nothing compared to before but now ive a new problem my chain has a big tight spot and is making a sort of chomping noise even with load of slop in the chain it gets mad tight in one spot and if you coast it sounds terrible, on a scale of one to ten how bad is this and also is this the right chain for my bike
    http://m.ebay.ie/itm/151736821367
    This is manufacturer part number
    JTF1263-17, JTR1847-55, 428HDR-130
Says it fits fzr 250 3ln exup japan

Thats good news, that money wasn't as much of a waste it seems now.
As far as chains go I spend the extra & buy good quality known brand, at least o ring chains, always change the sprockets as well for longest chain life. I'd be expecting to pay around $120 AU for them as a guide. You get what you pay for with chains & sprockets.
A good chain will tend to stretch less & less likely to get BIG tight spots, they will all go eventually but with less maintaining.

Yes so it seems. it warrants a drive at 100kph to limiter in 5th or 6th it will give me a good sense of how bad the flat spot really is but I cant yet until I sort chain, I checked the carbs are well seated and tightend up, one of the air box boots could be on better but it is on there there a pain to do had to heat them up mad to get them on last tim I did them.
Right now I am still trying to recover from the last bill so the 70 euro jt chain and sprockets will do for now once they will fit my 3ln!! Will I be ok on my hot spotty chain until wensday or should I not drive at all?I hope the chain is the source of the weird chomping noise

    :lolsign:

I watch that show all the time :D .... we have 'Highway Patrol" here ...... I was looking for the film crew in the back of the patrol car but alas .... no TV star staus

With the dodgy chain ... I would just take it steady and keep an eye on it.

If its twin headlight and deltabox frame it will be a 3LN1 ..... but its possible the motor, carbys have been changed.

We have your "high way patrol" to so I would have caught you if you got on it ha some peoples responses are hilarious pity that you would have been happy to front the few bucks for the tv time!

Yea ive bin flonking it around the fork seals and having decent tyre pressure has really changed the handling but I think the rear a bit too hard ive 30 front 35 rear im 60kgs yamaha recommend 25 and 28 I think.

Ok ill take it easy I dont need to go far just the bank to put money in for the chain and ive a date on sunday I must teach a girl how to ride . . . . . A dirt bike ha ha

Yep its a delta box frame anyway the frame number shows up in the run of fzrs made in 89-90 nd its reg here as a 92 lol

The chain is grinding and crunching like a mofo also I was hoping it was my new front pads making the noise I was disappointed lol will this do any damage to the rest of the assembly gearbox or anything? I need a clutch soon at this rate ill have had a new fzr.

And another question I couldnt open my resvoir for the front brake fluid sum toss pot had one of the screws ruined so when I was winding back in the calipers I tried not to lose much fluid but I am wondering now is if theres too much fluid in the resovoir with it sealed could this be causing some positive pressure on my brakes causing them to stick on slightly?
