    Hey guys!

Thought I'd start a new specific thread instead of turning my last one into something else.

Just an update so far (pics will be up this weekend).

Leaking forks. Most likely need to be re-sealed. Only fluid and no rust on the forks.

It doesn't start after being left overnight unless I clutch start it. Once i clutch start it and turn it off it'll turn back on no worries without the choke in my garage. Before I panic too much in regards to this i'm putting in new spark plugs and a new battery this weekend. I think the previous owner used it even less frequently then they suggested (surprise, surprise). Any thoughts on this though would be great because i've heard it can be from things as simple as i mentioned to a lot more worse case scenarios.

Also i noticed the headlights can't be switched off which i've read is kinda common with the import bikes (correct me if i'm wrong). Does this pose a problem at all though? Personally i like riding with the lights always on just so it helps me be seen a bit more in traffic.

Also does anybody know what the size is for the rear swingarm spools are? I want to put it on the stand and don't know the sizes.

    Thanks for the help :)

(I'm pretty sure) 89 model onward have daytime running lights, aka your low beam is always on. Safety measure it won't cause you any problems

See how it goes after you put the new plugs and battery in. The ZXR just drinks power when you start it and if your battery isn't 100% you'll have constant problems. If the battery doesn't fix it you'll probably have to take a look at the carbs perhaps? Again this bike is... temperamental... if it doesn't have happy carbies :p

Welcome to owning a ZXR :) it will be a pain at times, but I like to think that it gives them more character!

100% of people I have seen with "starting" issues in regards to zxr's has been the battery, get a new one and I think it will be fine.

"Also does anybody know what the size is for the rear swingarm spools are?"
I knew u were gonna ask that... =p They are 12mm spools.

as for forks, you could go to Terry Hay in penrith area for a full suspension service, i think it will be around 300$ish but call him first, he is a nice guy.

Headlights being on all the time is not an issue.

Cant agree more with this, I couldn't cold start at all, unless i bump started. Replaced my battery with an SSB AGM battery:
    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SSB-12V-...MAHA-SUZUKI-/281192222052?hash=item41785ccd64

And I haven't had a single trouble since, even when its been <10 degrees outside.

I just got the battery from MCAS for now. I figure if i find out the battery was problem then I can worry about upgrading it to a more expensive battery later.

Haha i'm sure it's not hard to see my noob questions coming a mile away. The forks aren't too bad for now I'll worry about them once i can get the bike running without issues. Also in regards to the carbies i'm not talented to really fiddle with them myself and I know most mechanics are too lazy to even attempt them on a zxr near me. I might end up needing some recommendations... :/

Carbies are actually very easy to fiddle with, a little time consuming but very easy. All the information you need to do it is here:

    http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/how-to-clean-your-carbies-on-a-kawasaki-zxr250c.653/

I'd say mechanics would charge a fortune to do the same job. Anyway good luck let us know how the battery goes it will probably solve your issue.

It's a long shot, but if you have a garage I have all the required tools. I'm sure I would have a good chance of cleaning them with three bond and syncing them for you.
I'd be pretty strict to the service manual.
My misses ended up paying a mech to do hers and it does go well, but I have a sneaking suspicion I would do a more heart felt job.
I'm pretty sure Kiff would point me in the right direction if I got stuck but I can't imagine it being too different to a mc22.

I am pretty sure there might be a litetek seal kit for it.
Not worth going the whole way without it.

Id be half worried about the air filter falling to bits also. Probably worth replacing it once in there.

Well the carbies will need to be looked at after I solve the start up issue due to something else i noticed. Whether it's just a clean or something else i'm not sure but I'm still reluctant to do it myself to be honest.

Hmm. Well might have to take you up on that once I solve the start up. Have you done the carbies on a ZXR before?

Also what kind of price did they charge your missus for the carby work? and what was needed? Just so i have a ballpark figure

They charged her a lot possibly up to 800$. I'm almost certain that the seals wouldn't have been replaced either.
Mechanics around here are dodgy and you never know what your really getting.
1 mechanic wanted to charge me 700$ just to loosen my triple tree and tighten it back up again... I hate mechs personally.

No I haven't done it before.
Odds are pretty high that I would have no problem doing it, I'm not the best but there isn't really much that can go wrong with that kind of job.

Other option is to just leave it. Is there anything wrong with them or is this for piece of mind?

Honestly dude there are few things that will need to be looked at.
If ur not planing on taking it to the track braided lines won't be needed.

But pads and rotors will need to be in spec
Fluid/oil flushed and changed for pretty much everything.
    Chain cleaned and lubed
    Tyre psi correct
    Filters changed
    Spark plugs changed, leads overhauled

And yeah carb rebuild certainly wouldn't hurt.

I'd even be half scared of the cam chain/tensioner tbh

But once you get through it all you will learn how to look after your bike and since an accident can be fatal it's well worth learning.

It's in regards to the bike revving. If i were to rev the bike in neutral it may hang for for a tad before going back down. I've heard of other things it could be but i'll end up checking the carbies first. Again before I panic I like to rule out the more simple things first. Thoughts?

My bike does that too, it won't blow up :)

    Probably a small vacuum leak

    A potential cause.

Do you mean they are already crumbled now or they will be as a result of something else soon?

All the sets of carbs I've pulled apart on a zxr have had this issue, 6 sets. Unfortunately they perish and are a cause of a 6-8k flat spot and a lean idle circuit. (Hanging idle.) lean idle isn't too bad on a 4 stroke (better fuel economy haha. Get that new battery mate. Zxr's need a strong battery. My motobatt can crank for 15mins pretty much straight before dying (I had the idle set wrong haha)

They crumble when pulled apart. Fix your other issues before worrying about carbs.

On the topic of idle what setting do you put the idle adjuster at when your starting it up?

I set the idle on mine at 1800rpm when warm. Keep it the same and use the choke when cold.
