The time has come to do away with the busted up chain she came with. Wondering where the best (cheapest?) place to buy a sprocket set and chain for a '97 Across would be? I'm in Ipswich but regularly travel into Brisbane so I'm hoping the Brissy boys are in the know. Cheers in advance guys! p.s. thoughts on changing the sprocket ratio?
Stick with the stock gearing ..... I just changed my FZR back to standard and it went from 10,000+RPM to around 8000RPM when cruising at around 100kph ..... much more pleasant and I would say cheaper, to ride. http://www.slipstreamperformance.co...make=Suzuki&model=GSX250F Across &year=all
Slipstream is looking like the go for sure. $149.95 for a chain and sprocket set, stoked! Also, http://www.gearingcommander.com/ to experiment with the ratio is interesting...
Yea just make sure u click on the little drop down box to select the number of teeth u want for the sprockets..... they usually mark wat is standard
Hi, I changed my front sprocket to 15 teeth, ( on both my girlfirends Across and mine,), works absolutely a treat,, As a guide chain was about half way adjusted, now is near front again, , I bought links just incase, But didnt need Them, U have to tweak the front sprocket cover just a tad on one of the bolt spigots, moulded into cover, ,, and yes we used the gearing commander, to see differences, ,,,Rate the 15 front, std rear,, about 9500rpm to 100km/hr,,,, Makes gears so much more usefull,
i went one up on the front for my accross and love the little bit extra it has. also keep in mind metal gear at brendale, they are good as well. last time i changed mine i got them from slipstream
So I ordered a 12t for the front and standard (49t) on the rear because I wanted more torque (fun). Will probably get a 15t in the future for commuting though, seems like the go for highways.
That's why I only went one down. Should get more "get up and go" but won't lose too much on top speed. Power commander reckons it'll be revving around 900rpm more than stock doing 100km in 6th which I can live with.
Sprockets and chain are changed! I've gone over all the bolts and nuts I touched a few times to make sure it's all good to go but what are some rookie errors with this? What am I most likely to have missed? Considering it's chain and sprockets, I don't really want to leave any of this to chance... Super keen to see how much difference the 12t front sprocket makes a difference.
Did u torque the front sprocket nut? ... lock washered? torque the rear sprocket bolts? chainlink clip facing the correct way? .... closed side of the clip should face the direction of travel chain tensioners adjusted to give u correct chain tension + rear wheel alignment?
The front sprocket had a clip ring so that's safe. Only one I missed was torquing the rear sprocket nuts so I'll do that before riding. Cheers! I'd be lost without this forum haha
