Well, didn't I give people a scare today, I was out with the family shopping in the city, I managed to get myself alone while I watched the count down of an ebay auction for a baby gixxer which I had bid on, at any rate with 10 secs to run I am winning the bid, and as the counter his 0 secs and I realise that I won, I let a shout followed by a fist pump. I had quite a few shoppers looking over at the mad man and his phone. At any rate, I am now the proud owner of a GSXR250 GJ73a and super stoked. I have never been able to find a decent one and to win this one was great. I texted the seller and got his address and did a run out to Brassell ( Ipswich) to pick it up. The seller was a bit worried I would part it out but I told him no way, this one will be bought back to life. He gave me the rundown that a friend had had a crack at the carbs and it no longer runs. Also he said the fork seals need some attention. Anyway, fast forward an hour and the bike is home, the carbs are off and guess what, all 8 jets are blocked. They are now soaking in threebond, carbs look the same as what's fitted to fizzers...... I will hopefully score some plugs tomorrow and get this girl fired up. Does anyone know the correct air fuel mix for these carbs ? Its a GJ73a A few pics if I may
Nice pick up mate, I to watched the auction count down fully expecting more bids??? The counter hit zero and I smiled.....Chris just bought a Gixxer 250 Looking at the carbs on the bike.....I'd swear I was looking at my old Bandit. The blue tape warrants further inspection.....someone has been fiddling The bike looks great, can't wait to hear that engine roar once again Nice pick up, long time coming to finally score a gixxer 250
Well done mate, I would throw a couple of swears in there but then where would the comradery be lol, Done well mate. Cant tell from the positioning of the pics taken but it kind of looks like the P.O has put in an aftermarket/new fuel pump where the blue tape is but most definitely worth closer inspection. Once again well done good score man
I like the paint job!! Those carbs look familiar, surely someone hasn't tried to throw bandit carbs on it (GJ74a...?) Don't know if they're the same...?
It's always interesting to see differences in the 'same' sort of bike (I4 250cc bikes). What are the differences between the Suzuki and Honda? It's also interesting to see racing-style parts like the under-slung rear caliper.
well I replaced the plugs, set the fuel mix screws to 1.25 turns out, she took some coaxing, but she started
Well I have owned FZR's, ZXR's and CBR's, to be honest I think this is a bloody good looking bike, when you get into the mechanicals I would have to say its a very closely related to the FZR, even the tacho starts at 4000RPM and it even sounds like a fizzer , I am yet to ride it so its hard to compare. Here is a vid of it running, you have to remember the previous owner had the exhaust insides ripped out so it sounds like an F1 car , so I will need to find something to muffle that sound or it wont pass a road worthy . The engine sounds strong, but I am not keen to rev it too high until I change the oil. The carbs are just sitting on there as is the airbox and it sounds like it is sucking some extra air. I just remembered that I left the choke on during the video so that wont help it run all that well either, DOH All 4 plugs that I pulled out were shockingly black
Yeah, like, the goal was to create essentially the same bike with near identical specs yet when you look up close they're so different.
Welcome to the gixxer club matey!!!!!! what a corker of a buy - and what a looker of a bike once the carbs are a bit better set up expect something like below - loving em mate - loving em!! Sent you a pm with settings - and if its looking for a home then risky's in competition!! All specs posted above are for the 72a model which is pretty different to your 73a - 27mm dual carbs as opposed to you 29/32 mm bank of four (std or sp?), different pistons, cams, valves, lift, duration, cdi, forks, shock - compare the frames I think the 73a was reported to be 8 or 9 times stiffer - the 72a was the earlier model - and a bugger to extract extra power from - yours is the revised version from when the 250 4 cyl 4 stroke market took off - Suzuki did lots of the work for us - this one is yours boss - Loving it matey, cheers si
Gixxer 250 in action..lap 2 on..favourite you tube clip of all time..boydie will second the notion..entry, mid corner and exit are sublime..but a bit more needed on the straights !
GSXR isn't as brutal as the ZXR, but handles a treat and feels heaps smaller. I saw this and thought Kiffsta was flipping it already... http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/moonah/motorcycles/suzuki-1988-gsxr-250r-gj73a/1095957402
