That CBR400 is a sweet ride when it's running right. It was a shame that it started dropping cylinders during the twisty bits between Grafton and Glen Innes. Would have loved to have done that bit of road on all 4 cylinders...it didn't do too bad on 2/3 cylinders!

Video of QLD riders arriving in Grafton follows. Sound is a bit low.

for those playing at home, my CBR400RR played up like a 2nd hand lawnmower on the ride, when I got it on Saturday arvo, it wouldn't start, it would only cough and splutter. I rode it back to the Motel and it honestly felt like it was running out of juice , at any rate, I nursed it home and set about thinking what it would be. After pulling the carbs off, and checking the fuel filter, I deduced the problem lay elsewhere. The it hit me like a flash, Phil and I had given the CBR a minor service in prep for this ride, fresh oil and filter and while everything was off I took the time to replace the air cleaner with a spare I bought years back when I bought the bike, the feedback that she blowing smoke could have meant she was struggling to breathe. The air filter I bought was first bought the bike, the replacement air cleaner comes from the peoples republic of China.

I googled NC29's with stuttering under revs and there quite a few posts of people complaining their bikes ran like poo after using a Chinese filter and fixed it by using a genuine filter.

So I sourced a Genuine Honda filter from Metropolitan Motorcycle Spares and it arrived today, before I fitted it up and took some pics for comparison, the OEM Honda one is underneath the Chinese one in the pics. How could it breathe with the mesh...

I just did a test ride and after warming her up, I went from 1st , 2nd and 3rd shifting at 13500 rpm, she is back baby !!!

Apologies to Frankster and the other riders effected by my dodgy bike, I wont be buying Chinese filters anymore.

That's my Values share for this week.

I swear I mentioned this when I changed from Chinese to hiflofiltro!!! Agreed Chinese filters are the worst.

The moral of this story is???? we probably should have done nothing and the bike would have performed admirably. If it ain't broke.....don't fix it, famous last words!!
Pleased to hear she's back.....here's me telling @Frankster what a great bike he was riding :oops::oops:

@kiffsta glad to hear the CBR is running right again. @Murdo did suggest we pull the filter out...wise man. And @Phil the CBR is a GREAT bike and I would have loved to have ridden her the entire trip. Kiffsta's GSXR does everything really well, but given the choice I would have hopped straight back onto the CBR. Next time.
