Any suggestions for good, value for money oil for across? I asked at supercheap but they were a bit unclear. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hey Sarah 10w is what is recommended , 2.6l without a filter or 2.9 if you change the filter , always put about 200ml less then top up using the sight glass. I have always bought expensive semi synthetic at about $60 for 4l, although recently I have been using a slightly cheaper Castrol 10w 40 which I get from super cheap for $32 for 4l . Most of my riding is commuting at low speed so I cant justify the big $$$ oils. In saying that I do change my oil regularly - ever 4000 - 5000 kms (if I keep the bike that long) Chris
Just make sure its motorcycle oil .... car oils can contain 'friction modifiers' which can make your clutch slip as it is a wet clutch...... as in the engine oil lubricates the engine , gearbox and clutch. Penrite is good stuff and at times can be 'cheap' at superchump 10W40
I used to use Silkolene then Genuine Honda (Or Pro Honda Oils and Chemicals) and then to Penrite. I don't like the Penrite oil though, makes the engine sound noisey.
a brand new yamaha shop opened in town and the guys were so nice i bought the yamaha oil managed to get away with 2 litres (still had one litre left from last time) with that and the new oil filter in, its running beautifully. didn't expect the oil to make so much difference to lower gears etc but running very nicely at the moment.
I've started using Penrite HPR Diesel 10 Semi-Synthetic 10W40 on some of the bikes I'm working on. I was skeptical about it, so I rang Penrite and asked one of their experts...she said you can ONLY use HPR Diesel on wet clutch motorcycles...all other penrite oils should never be used (except MC oils of course). So far so good and, like Kiffsta, I don't need top oil for these bikes, so cheap and cheerful helps the bottom line. I only use the good stuff on my race bike. Anyone else tried HPR Diesel?
We all use Caltex DELO 400 (which is a diesel and fleet use oil) at the Fizzer factory, and also in my Triumph Sprint, and in Linkin's R6... it's very good... I would say, as good as a synthetic. Our use was based on extensive trials by others with outstanding results (it does not have any friction modifiers in it - so perfect for wet clutch). Cost: $114 for 20 litres ... and the bikes go like stink...
The Delo being a fleet oil is supposedly made from the highest quality crude ..... truck companys and large farm machinery arnt going to use junk in their machines.
You can also use Penrite HPR Gas 10: https://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=1&id_products=10 Even says so on their website. "HPR GAS 10 is recommended for use in LPG/Petrol/Dual fuel & light duty diesel engines as well as in four stroke motorcycles including those with wet clutches." I've used it in the dirtbike and it works fine.
