I would think , apart from the crap design originally thats going to wear them anyway , that the new product would be of questionable quality compared to 25 years ago

They came from one of @Linkin s bikes so he would be able to give an estimate of use.

Think it was after we did the timing chain at your place and I was back in Sydney... the difference was night and day after putting those in and setting the pilot screws to 3 turns out.

OK guys when I pull mine down I'l see if I can sort a solution, I am thinking that some brass sleeve, reamed to the appropriate dimension to be a snug fit between the slide hole and over the needle may work to stop them flapping about as much

even something as simple as small length of heatshrink may make the needles a snug fit, it's very much an imperfect design

I haven't yet seen a zeal slide up close but when I do it may provide further inspiration

Had trouble with a used set of ohlins rear shocks for the zeal... they contain oil so are a no go through buyee. Carbs, might get lucky. The idea being to send you the slides and needle/tube bits to see what can be done :)

just quietly I have some zeal carbs sourced for $120, hesitating slightly purchasing them as I have no real need for them otherwise because they're a smaller bore than the 3LN1's

You know think the carb diameter size is a clever exercise in marketing. Have a look in the service manual supplement for the 3LN1, page 24. It gives the model of the carbs as BDST28 and below that is the symbol for diameter which says 26.5mm.

The 26 > 28mm change appears to be the outer diameter from the 2KR/3HX to 3LN. I know for a fact that my zeal carbs have an OD of 28mm and an ID of 26.5mm - but I have not stuck the calipers on the inside of a 3LN throttle body... Mr. Grey, could you measure some of the spares floating around?

you might be onto something, but I suspect that there's the same carb body bored to different diameters which may yield the different size designations - calipers will clarify the issue
