76 HP... wow... that is a big typo to make seeing as they are 17HP lol
Interesting that you found one for sale... they don't come up often.. and usually the ones that do are either basket cases or pretty good but they want big bucks for them either way..

Both are over priced for what they are...

I better not tell anyone what i just paid for me SRX then . In my defence i did really want a SRX 250 and this one was the best i could find at the time. No doubt it's going to cost more money than what it's worth , but it's what i wanted.

If you are still looking for a muffler, this one is for sale at $50 and I can drop it off in Glen on Sunday next (30th) on my way through.
it's about 18" long, 4"diameter and of a perforated tube flow through design. You will need to make a plate to bolt it to and weld onto your pipe.

Haha.. dont worry... we all do it.. I know exactly how much I have spent so far and I am definitely NOT going to put it in print.. just in case the Minister of Finance see it... :)
It is one of those things... if you want it bad enough.. you will pay what is necessary.

Hi Murdo. Thanks very much for the offer but the piggy bank is empty, had a budget blow out just paying for the bike to be transported to it's new home. Sounds like Andych is after it though , so no problem for him to score it.

Love the black colour scheme on the bike. But after owning a black coloured road bike for over ten years by memory it was an absolute nightmare , but it did look so good when waxed up after detailing it. Have to admit , if i could get those decals i'd seriously think about painting it black.

Hi to all. This is my new family member. It's not much but it's mine. It's going to take a while to clean up though as the pictures show. I wont be doing anything at all this year , until i get some dollars together so i can start and finish it , i hope.Already have arranged for the motor to be checked over via my Yamaha engine specialist as i'm going to get everything repainted anyway as it is pretty sad.

    That look's pretty good.
I spotted one for sale locally the other day, it was in a lot worse condition,
needed a few thing's done to it like rego, a new battery, new windscreen, front brake's needed a flush/bleed, a front tyre and an indicator
But then again he only wanted $150.
After a tidy up and the above thing's fixed it would have cost me under $600 including purchase price to get it on the road again.

Grateful with the positive feedback guys.I'm itching to get stuck into it though. I'll ask the spray painter to drop out and have a look over it for me to give me a rough price for the work. Finally picked out a Avatar , hope this is acceptable to the forum. Actually i'd like a T shirt with this printed on it, have to add this to my wish list before the bike is finished and put back on the road.No doubt this will make the little SRX perform so much better !, right ?.

Hi to all. Well I think it's time to update this very old post , well it's only been around a year or so since there has been an update, but who's counting !.

I'll keep the story short and sweet so no one fall's asleep reading it !.

Anyway , before i get started i'd like to say a special thank's to Andych and Murdo ( The Good Doctor) that have helped enormously to get the bike to where it is at the moment , back to life. Andych also supplied a massive supply of spare's for the SRX as most where needed , without these spares really don't think the bike would have been finished so soon. So huge thank's to both of you !

Thank's also to Kiffsta at MotoREcycle in Brisbane / Sue Booth (the good looking one) and to the other forum member's that have assisted in helping. Thank's to all.

Right , onward we go !

The plan in the beginning was to paint the bike back to the Australian market colour scheme which is stormy red for the panel's and warm silver for the frame / swingarm. These are the colour's i remember from over thirty four year's ago when i saw a SRX 250 in real life. The original colour was easy to source. The biggest hassle was that nearly all of the original decal's where N.L.A After ringing around found a motorcycle transfer / decal guy that said he could replicate and supply the factory style of decal's , but in the end he just stuffed me around for so long i just gave up chasing / ringing him and went looking on the web to see what other option's. So in ” our ” (Andy also helped , well we do have the same bike) web search we found the SRX 250's had a few different factory colour scheme's which I was never aware of back in the day's. Yamaha also released a Black colour scheme SRX250 , really thought it looked super nice , but after owning a black painted bike for over ten year's common sense prevailed. So picked one that looked the best / user friendly / safety sake these day's and the most important thing where that the decal's where straight forward and easy to replicate and cheap to make. So in the end chose the the Japanese market colour scheme , which is silky white for the panel's etc and Fire red for the frame / swing arm and the fork leg's.

Note : I still have a original Yamaha SRX 250 FN (51Y) pre- release information brochure back from the old day's , have been carrying this around all of this time. Still have the quarter litre road test magazine when the SRX 250 and other brand's where released here in OZ at that time , very cool magazine to read. So you could say i've alway's liked to look of the SRX 250.

The strip down. The whole bike was stripped and bagged and tagged , just part's in box's. All of the filthy part's that where covered in solid crap with over thirty year's of use like the rear swing arm / rear suspension / rear suspension linkages component's / cables etc where put into the part's washer and left there to soak. Just closed the lid on the part's washer and walked away. It worked a treat , all of the solid crap just turned to mush and fell off.

It's sand blast time and paint. The frame / swing arm / tank / clip on's / front fairing frame / hand rail's etc was sandblasted back to bare metal. A few very small ding's where found on the fuel tank that i didn't see before , but was repaired easily via the painter. Had two pack paint applied to everything that was needed.

Motor etc was sent out to be fully rebuilt by a good mate , this was arranged in the early stages of purchasing the bike as the k's showed the motor has done it's job over the year's and needed more than a top end / head job as the bike also has a un-known history. Thankfully nothing narsty inside was found at all which was a huge relief , so at one stage of the bike's life it was looked after to a degree. Was supplied detailed pictures of the engine pulled apart and re-assembly , good info to have for history of the bike. Via the pictures supplied the top end was burning oil anyway so the engine needed a freshen up to bring back to life and return all of the huge HP (not) which was lost.

While the motor etc was away being rebuilt had the starter motor dropped off to another mate for a service. The only thing found internally with the starter motor that the bearing's where very dry and after 34 year's of use this is to be expected , so was happy that it was pulled apart and serviced before any damage was done in the future. Look's like the starter motor / most internal part's are also N.L.A .

Tried to keep the bike in pretty well stock trim as much as possible. Andych supplied some you beaut vented front cover's (they sit behind the steering bearing head set) to allow more air flow for the rectifier / regulator assembly. The vented cover's should keep everything a lot cooler when on the move , the original factory fitted front cover's back when the bike was built had no vent's at all just sold plastic and they didn't look nice either. A few other mod's here and there like the front braided brake line was fitted as the original hose line was way past it's used by date and didn't want to take the chance of the hose failing in any way. Via the web , looks like the front brake hose is N.L.A anyway so had no choice.

Also fitted a 15T front sprocket ( back sprocket is 43 T which is stock) , this should keep the rev's down a touch.

There are a few other thing's i'd like to do when finances allow. Such as getting the speedo and tacho serviced / fitting the factory oil cooler (oil radiator is pretty sad so that cant be used the way it is at the moment). The original oil cooler radiator mount's on the frame in front of the head and since the radiator is sad , thought about fitting a side mounted oil cooler radiator kit to allow for maximum air cooling to the head and barrel but the asking price for this style of cooler is just down right stupid. I'd have to walk the street's / stand under a red light at night to get this type of money together to buy a new one !. With my looks ( beached whale comes to mind !) i'd be waiting for a long time to get the money together , if ever ! .

Ok , wakey wakey guy's. The story time is over ! It's picture time OR it never happened , right !.

But before i reveal the new 2FIFTYCC.COM bike , thought i'd remind you what the bike looked like when first purchased.
