Been riding for a ton of years. Have several bikes.

My son decided he wanted to learn and at the same time learn about bikes, mechanically etc. As my older brother used to own a motorcycle shop, I worked there after school and weekends so was taught everything by the mechanics in the workshop.

Anyway, we bought an Australian model GSF250V and are now stripping it down to get it all going again and working properly. Found this website with a heap of resources, so paid the premium membership to access the manuals etc.

Bit of a father and son project. But he loves it and is learning lots at the same time.

    Thanks. Will do..

He made a start on the bike today, under my watchful eye.. LOL.. at the end of the day, he had a big grin on his face and a bike that was starting to be pulled apart. With all parts in boxs and zip-lock bags and all marked what its for.

Will have to post some pics.

Just wondering how long does it take to have access to the downloads after paying for the premium membership?

We also discovered what we think are the reasons why the bike is very hard to start or doesn't start as it seems there are some missing vacuum lines as well as the fact that the spark plugs leads weren't fully connected to the spark plug cap, looked like they were but when I bumped one, the core fell out of the cap.

But was more wondering where the vacuum lines are meant to be as it looks like one from the left side carby intake mount is blocked for some reason. Previous owner/s looked to have cut the line and shoved a ball bearing in it.. So am hoping the service manual will show me what it is meant to be connected to

Possibly changed the fuel tap so it doesn't need vacume anymore?

Resources should be activated tonight if not tomorrow.

I was wondering if that might have been the case with the fuel tap. But according to several online parts lists with diagrams etc, the fuel tap is the same as what is in the pictures. Hence why I was interested in seeing the service manual

Thanks everyone. Was able to access the downloads late last night. Will be interesting to see what is there in comparison to what the bike currently is.

We'll, be ordering some brake seals today to service the front brake caliper which had a sticky piston. Plus we found that the battery that is in it, whilst in very good condition, is not the correct battery. It's too small and wobbles around everywhere. As well as taking the headlight apart and finding that it is a sealed beam, but then found that the spare headlight housing for my GSX1400 fits. So will be looking for another headlight as well. hopefully after a good carby service with a kit, she will be up and running again.

    Welcome!

I recently bought a GSF250V off of @kiffsta here and got it roadworthy/registered, been riding it around for a few months now.

I have also had issues with the spark plug leads not screwing into the caps properly. I'm looking into replacing the leads but I don't yet know if the leads can be removed from the coils or if they are permanently attached.

The vacuum line on #1 inlet manifold should go to the vacuum fuel tap.

    Hmmm,
Something tells me I have a totally different fuel tap as looking at the manual and comparing to what I have, there is no spot for the vacuum hose.

That would be likely. The fuel tap o-ring to the tank is a common shape and many different fuel taps could be swapped in.

I read through your post on your bike.. Nice..

I don't suppose you might know if a fuel tap from the GSF600 with vacuum line would fit the GSF250V ? I see there are quite a few on ebay. I'd prefer to return the bike back to its standard configuration to get it running again. As I believe that if the bike is not modified in any way - it will make the trouble shooting easier.

Yes - another Tamworthian... :lolsign: might have to catch up and go for a ride at some stage. My wife and I regularly ride up to Gingers Ck on a weekend.

Thanks for the link to the parts - but I was after a full jet kit as well to replace everything internal that I can. Previous owner said he cleaned the jets as best he could, but wasn't sure how successful the cleaning was. So I thought that I may as well just put all new jets/needles etc in as well. Bike was running, but he couldn't get it started when we were there. Turned over OK, but may well have been stale fuel or other issues. Electrics seemed Ok.

There are kits on ebay for the GSF250V. Not sure on their quality. For gaskets I would definitely go litetek. I haven't had to open the carbs on mine as everything works fine, except for a cracked fuel bowl that I replaced.

You can get genuine parts from sites like megazip and impex. I use megazip even though they are pricey, service is good and parts are genuine. I try to avoid the rip-off parts if I don't need them. Sometimes the local dealers are cheaper.

    https://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-d...sf250-2285/gsf250-13973/gsf250vy-e24-y-723274

The fuel tap can be had for $80 USD - very pricey. Part number is 44300-10D10-000

EDIT: @GreyImport suggested this one to me from aliexpress: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32846627215.html

Main and starter jets wont wear out ..... main problems will be
    - dirty
    - mangled (pilot jets are very soft brass)
    - drilled out by an idiot
    - replaced with bigger sized ones to go super fast by the same idiot

    I have just bought a GSF250 import. I think its a 1990 model imported in 2002.
Just in the middle of cleaning the carbs up and now have all the info from here to get the parts I need and do a good clean.
The bike has plates but out of rego and when it hits 30 yrs old next year maybe I can get club plates on her.
