Nice work Andy. The Blown VW Drag bike would be Rick Thornley's old top fuel bike. I think that bike originally belonged to Stan Pobjoy. Blown VW powered bikes were popular back in the day. A nice piece of nostalgia there. The guy should sell it to someone and let them run it! Nothing worse than history sitting around gathering dust.

Plan to start the Honda soon, so need to do a bit of wiring. Started on the RH handlebar switch. cleaned all the contacts with a scotchbrite and attached new wires. I will put a relay in the ignition coil circuit so no need for heavy gauge wire. Have to get some plastic primer next and see if I can give the switch bodies a new paint job.

Good question ... I was thinking about that myself if the thread stripped or yes came loose and just turned

This is what they look like 'inside' when crimped so I guess maybe u could drill them out with the right size bit

You need to either drill them out or use a carbide burr in a dremel to grind/cut them enough to remove, you might lose it inside the frame if it's boxed tube too.

Have you tried tightening them ?
Screw a high tensile bolt with a nut wound down the thread a bit into the nutsert with a washer inbetween the nut and nutsert so there's about 10mm of thread screwed in, then do the nut up tight against the nutsert.
The way they're fitted is similar to a pop rivet, so the nutsert is compressed into the hole.
Some nutsert's have a smooth compression area so they dont grip as well

Drill out with the same size drill you used to put it in with. If it spins just hold the head with pliers/multi grips.

I haven't gotten much done lately, like for 2 months! However, I've picked up a couple of extra bikes and such.. Most of the stuff I've been doing has been on KDX200s (I do have 4 of them), trying to sort some to sell - 4 might be more than I need. The H model is an American import, not registerable, so I'm preparing it for sale. Engine got rebuilt, frame got paint (subframe black, sprayed with a degreaser gun from one of those cheap kits), got steering bearings and linkage bearings to fit, in the middle of a front brake clean up (the rotor is hollowed, too), and I'm sure there'll be surprises to come...

I got around to whipping the rocker cover off the $10 CB360 motor after taking the Boss out for a nice Valentines dinner :)
So apart from getting the Points cover and points backing plate, it looks like the rocker arms on this one are still in pretty good condition.. as are the cam lobes... cant say the same for the bearings though.
The cam coming from the USA has good bearing surfaces from the pics so I might get away with it all.. the other good thing is the valves are still in the head.. the springs have a little surface rust on the exhaust side but they should clean up ok... so far this $10 + $32 freight engine has saved me approx $250 in used parts that are hard to find... if nothing else is salvageable I am pretty happy.. who knows what the gearbox will be like (identical between 250G5 and 360G5/ T). I wont know that for a while as I need to get the SRX finished... :)

I might need to pull a few bits off both engines and send them up to @kiffsta for some Water blast loving... It is easy to pack up the bits and send of via E-go Couriers..

I have been out this morning to Bunnings for the bits I need to make my portable Blast cabinet.. and I checked out my eBay 6" grinder and it has 1/2W threads so I bought a Left and Right 1/2" Whitworth spindles... so it should be a day of sorting some tools today.. before it goes past 37 in the afternoon..
And while going to Bunnings my low tyre pressure warning came on.. It appears I have a nice big screw in my tyre on the Jeep... so I will be changing that today as well seeing as I am off to Dubbo before the sun comes up in the morning.. Grrrr

I'm too lazy to find the thread about plastics restoration, so I will post it here. I keep getting told about heat gun for powdery, oxidised plastic, so I tried it on the tank of an old KDX, but I don't have a heat gun. So I used a propane torch - I had seen it used for machined Perspex. The plastic must be clean and don't overdo it, better if you remove some of the powdered plastic if it's really bad. Well I made the trolley for the blast cabinet.. so next weekend it is time to finish hooking up the second tank and sorting the vacuum arrangement on it so it is relatively dust free.. and I had a little play on the polisher.. I couldnt really do much as it needs to be bolted down and I want that to be outside so all the crap it gives off is no tin the garage...

So today was the end of an era. I sold my kia van. I bought it in 2016 and it was very cheap and cheerful , the body work had more hits than Elvis. The rego was due next week so up it went on gumtree last night as unregistered project . I received a call this morning from a buyer , we talked about it and he agreed to take it if I could drop it off . Phil offered to follow me up and bring me home, I had a lightbulb moment , I was like I have a van. I will just load my bike in the back and ride it home

So 70 mins drove to his place , then a 50 min ride home on the zxr

Thanks Kia , I estimate I picked up over 250 bikes in our time together. One last pic for old times sake , I stopped on the way home for a kebab and the zxr pic was pretty cool.

I should pick up my newish Toyota van next week
