Wanted to clean/polish the triple clamp on the ZXR and found this security bolts. Any idea on how to work on them?
I cant see the bolt too well, but it may be a sheer bolt. When you do it up and it reach's correct tension the head will break off. Use a sharp centrepunch and hammer to punch a dimple and then angle the centrepunch and tap it with a hammer to undo it. Might take a couple of goes to get it out Could also try drilling a small hole a few mm's into the centre of it and tap a torx bit into the hole and try that.
It’s a sort of a hex screw, not torx, it’s so tiny that I fear I’ll make it round if I push it too hard. If I take it out I don’t think I’ll be able to get it back in again...
They are one time use bolts ( shear bolts) , as they tighten up, the heads snap off. it is an anti theft measure. I usually drill them out or as stated above, you can notch one side of them and then try to tap them around. You wont be able to use them again
lol- no prostate trouble but pi**ed off that david silver spares do not fill orders as they come in. have spent over 2.5 k with them on parts.
Swapped the bikes around again... the SRX is back on the lift and the CB400 is tucked away in the main garage waiting on either a new frame or some frame repairs to fix the previous bodge job... I must get down and pick up the TT350 head... time to put some serious effort into this little bike.
I received a call on Friday to pick up an old cb250 Honda , the owner moved to America in 2010 and her dad spent some money a few years back and replaced the battery and a tyre. Alas it sat for another few years and then he called me I drove out and picked it up on Saturday . Today the boys gave the carb a quick clean And she fired up, we fitted a new battery and now one of the lads who helps Out at the shop is taking it home Another one saved and will be back on the road very soon

Bought myself another CB250 G5 today.. I will pick it up next weekend from down near Jervis Bay. This one comes with a complete motor and exhaust pipes (yay) but it has been stripped back to go Cafe.. along with the required TLS front brake. The tank looks to be better than my existing one.. I guess we will see what the frame is like. The good thing is that it is a late build frame and engine plus I have 99% of the missing bits with the other bike. About all I am missing are the side panels and Air Cleaners..
I know, I have been on the lookout for pipes for a while now. Mufflers are easy as I want to use Dunstall copies anyway. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
So I was doing fork seals in my zxr and I ran into an issue I'm wondering if yous have had , the thicker of the two bushings for the fork tubes will not fit in I can't understand why though as they are the same bushing I took out . It just won't slip in ,l. If you guys can help I'd greatly appreciate it I am stumpted Sent from my Redmi 5 Plus using Tapatalk
I'm sorry for going off topic of what I've done today but you guys are very knowledgeable so I hope yous can shed some light on this issue . I'd like to hope I'd be of assistance to a new member some day aswell Sent from my Redmi 5 Plus using Tapatalk
They shouldn't just slip in, they are meant to be firm, you don't want them floating when in use. But use a scourer to clean any residue off the fork outer where the bush sits and off the outer of bush. Then use the fork seal installation tool to tap it into place.
@ShaneP I mean this is really tight like a good slap with a hammer and it's not moving so much is that normal ? Sent from my Redmi 5 Plus using Tapatalk
They are usually hard to get out, too. Make sure there's no lip and the bush is right way around, if there only one edge. But scrub the seat of the fork outer.
Picked this up from Jervis Bay today. It moved around a bit in the wind but it got home ok. The frame has been butchered and they have clear coated the tank to keep the “patina” but it looks to be basically debt free. I will add more pics etc in my project thread. Nice pickup , there is certain class associated with 70’s bikes. I just started on a gt380 project that one of my customers gifted to me. Need to start a thread to capture it
