Grr why cant they just make 1 oil for everything. Just like cooking idgaf what its cooked in aslong as it isnt burning to the pan
So i tried that oil. It seemed to work fine but did seem a bit heavy. Oh well looks like il just have to fork out 60 dollars for a 10w40 fully synthetic thats the closest to 10w30 i can get
Just be careful because as the saying goes... Oils aint Oils... A normal car engine oil will have all sorts of friction modifiers etc to make it all as slippery as possible which is all well and good for an engine but a motorcycle's oil not only has to lubricate and cool the engine but also work with a "wet" multiplate clutch and gearbox. This is why you really shouldn't use normal Car engine oils and there are plenty of people around who swear it isnt good to use fully synthetic... at least on old motorcycle engines. The oil that you have been recommended works well for a good number of people with no adverse affects.. that cant be assumed for any others.. Surely you cant be the ONLY person in NZ who wants a good quality Motorcycle oil for high revving engines... check what is available at Bike shops.. try one that sells Ducati or other High performance bikes.. see what they have available.
Problem is i live rural nz. Think i really want to spend money driving up and down the country just to find a descent motorcycle oil lol.
We have no idea where in NZ you live as your details just say New Zealand and I am pretty sure Google works over there.. as does online shopping.... but.. if you are not going to take any of the previous advice given... then as you said.. just chuck in any old oil... if it works for you then great..
See if they will ship it to you ... https://www.mxstore.com.au/search/?q=oil https://www.amawarehouse.com.au/catalogsearch/result/?q=oil
Cheers grey import and everyone else for the advice. I just settled for a penrite 4t motorcycle oil 10w40 fully synthetic. Cost 60 bucks for 4l. Such a pain in the ass trying to buy oils online because im rural so that adds to my delivery costs and im likenot a big fan of buying anything thats liquid form online from an unkown source/trademe. Just heard some people can be real a'holes and not sell you exactly what you bought when it comes to oils so that puts me off. Definitely going to keep an eye out for delo400 still Again cheers everyone
Sorry, i live at the top of the north island/ northland. Rural in the middle of nowhere. Closest town is 1 hour away. I did try google/ online shopping but im not spending a ridiculous amount of money on shipping/delivery and then having to wait a week for it to arrive thats why i didnt go with that option. Allgood its all been sorted. I just wanted some advice on oil and see what everyone opted for which was delo400 but i cant find it near me
We do but i highly doubt they would stock it high and wide. Ive seen a few NZ bikers trying to find the same product but with not much luck. Ill try an engineering shop, probably a bus engineering/diesel mechanic would be my best option but ill keep an look out at every caltex i visit. Cheers linkin
For what it's worth you should have some luck with anywhere that fuels trucks or for that matter somewhere where there is farming equipment and diesel engines are in common use I'm going to give that Delo 10W30 semi-synthetic a whirl as the lower grade is part of the recommended range for the FZR and oil weight really saps power on the little powerplant Don't get stuck on Delo 400, although it's got a lot of advocates for good reason, expect diesel oils in general to be suitable because the shear loads in a motorcycle gearbox are likely comparable with the loads generated inside a diesel engine given their enormous torque outputs - that was one of the factors which drew people to investigate diesel oils in the first place. Shell Rotella and other diesel oils from reputable refiners are also in common use among motorcyclists - oil weight is the important factor for the FZR
