    Not quite motorbike, and certainly not mine, but on the weekend I went to a come-try event for Specialized mountain bikes, including their Levo Turbo: a pedal-assist e-bike. It was a pretty cool piece of technology and makes for great single-track trail riding. It isn't a motorbike because the only way to activate the drive is to pedal - and you have to pedal gently for the bike to assist, pedal hard and it stays out of it. So it got me thinking about buying one, but at about $6,000 I have to ask why pedal when you can get a real motorbike?! There are some awesome mountain bike trails out there, and motorbikes aren't allowed, but equally, won't there also be some awesome motorbike trails? So now I will have to do some research, maybe go check out Manar Park with a motorbike with a motorbike this time. And there's Queensland Motorpark. Anyone know of any other places? There's a national park near me, but they say you have to stay to the roads, and most of them are closed for the logging trucks to use.

    I've been troubleshooting a friend's 1978 Suzuki SP370 today.
    It's missfiring/spluttering then cutting out after 15min's or so riding, then it won't start for 45 min's
    Think i have sussed it, the ignition condenser isn't showing any reading's on my multimeter, although the point's don't look burnt/pitted?
    I have another nos condenser here off another Suzuki (slightly lower reading than the SP370 original spec's) so am hoping that may fix the problem.
    Then i need to work out why it's flattening the battery, could be condenser related putting extra voltage back through the charging system.
    And the other problem is it's jumping out of gear occasionally.

    Decided that I really, really, really need to get a move on with the NSR and I loosen the linkage bolts, slightly jacked up the centre of the frame and removed the rear shock to replace with an SP rear shock. I realised, though, that the SP shock was quite dirty (Well, too dirty for me to install because it is a little annoying to remove once it's all together). I wanted to remove the spring but after loosening the shock collars I realised it seems impossible to remove it with the collars all the way up which typically is fine for dirt bike shocks. So I bought some small spring compressors. Since it's a Showa shock you need to have the spring considerably loose as the bottom spring thingy has a clip which is hidden and needs a mallet to knock it loose! Hold up #1!

    Then I decided to install the Eliptech Shift-I which was previously on my MC22. It's a pretty awesome gizmo, especially on high revving small 250s. Eliptech sold me a MC22-specific Shift-I which meant it had the connectors for the MC22. Not to worry, a few dollar coins later and the Chinese have sent me a few connectors so I can seamlessly connect into the signal for the RPM. Hold up #2!

    Then I decided I could prepare the CR250 expansion chamber for dent removal by plugging up one end, and installing my super dodgy compressor fitting on the other. Until I realised I can't remember where I put the exhaust plug... Hold up #3.

    So three strikes and I gave up and called it a night!

    So tonight was "pull the starter from the Duc" night. There's FOUR drain plugs on that motor for some dumb reason, but I'm tired of the leaking so I'm replacing every damned crush washer on that motor, including the one that's behind the starter for NO good reason. Thanks, Ducati!

    Clutch parts showed up for the ZXR today, but the lift is blocked waiting on Ducati parts! Clutch maybe on Sunday?

    ... and I was a dumbass and bought a third motorcycle. It seemed a good idea at the time! Bought a hardtail 1980 XS650 Yamaha with the most terrible girder forks on it. So seventies! I laugh every time I look at it.

    Playing around with the Suzuki SP370 thumper again today
    The new 6v reg/rect arrived friday, i also bought a new spark plug cap and spark plug for it.
    No one sell's a 10Ω spark plug cap in SA, well no one i can easily find, so i had to use a 5Ω cap, the spark look's a bit better than it was.

    The battery had been going flat lately, resulting in slow or no indicator's andtail light, and dull dash warning light's.
    I have hooked up the 6v reg/rect to the loom temporarily to see if it's going to work, bypassed the original regulator and the seperate rectifier
    Previously it was over charging the battery at idle, and blew the speedo and tacho bulb's as well.
    With the new reg/rect it is now charging the battery at 6.5v at idle and goes to about 7.5v at 3000 rpm's.
    Hopefully it's all good now

    I wired up the nos Suzuki condenser to the point's, it was a different style condenser and mounted from the side not the end, i had to move it to the point's backing plate bolt to fit it
    The new condenser also had 2 wire's coming off it (yellow and a black), with the original condenser only having one
    Thought the yellow wire would run to the point's and the black to earth.
    So i got it all back together and tried it out, kicked it over for 15 min's with no sign's of it firing up.
    Then i thought i'd try it without the black wire earthed to the backing plate, it fired up and idled first kick, yey !!!

    While the tank was off i checked out a few other thing's.
    The frame was powdercoated when the owner restored the bike year's ago, so i checked the ignition coil was earthing to the frame.
    It wasn't, it just relied on the earth wire from the main loom, so i sanded the powdercoat off to give it a better earth and smeared it with dielectric grease.
    Also checked the valve clearance's and found they were a bit too tight so adjusted them as well

    Kicking this bike over now i can feel the difference in compression, i have to get it just past tdc before i kick it, will have to let the owner know too otherwise he'll break his ankle kicking it over from wherever it's stopped at.

    Now i need to tuck the wiring up and take it for a long ride to check it's doing what it should and not cutting out anymore.
    Then come back home if it's all good and rewire it neatly with some new permanent plug's and socket's etc.

    new coils, condenser and plugs in friends cb350 twin. idles perfectly, no misses or backfires and going as good as new. next job is to replace camshaft seal behind points.

    I sold the Honda shadow 200 on Friday, so now I have one less bike! I have an Across and a WR250F to work on, and a couple of quads, but with uni so far behind, a shed needing cleaning, a cyclone just off the coast and a car roadworthy to do, the bikes are going to sit a while.

    ordered camshaft seal. put new staintune headers on the bmw r65 and broke one of the mufflers staintune wants 1450- 2nd hand set with a few marks for sale at less than half that price in the states.

    I gave the carbs a quick once over then soaked the jets in Threebond and let them soak for an hour then blew them out with the compressor, I reassembled them , popped them on the bike, poured some fuel in and she fired straight up

    Had a run at the track yesterday, trying to get a handle on riding a twin in anger again.
    Loving the refreshed suspension, definitely love the body position on the wog bike's, and the mid corner early throttle roll on, being able to unleash the torque without fear of high siding.

    Ordered some Pirelli MT90 tyres for the Dominator. Should be slightly more comfortable for the ride to Drake rather than the knobbies that are currently on it.

    Also Litetek kit for the ZZR250 carby arrived so might get stuck in and rebuild the carb this weekend.

    It's already off :) When I had it all back together I took it for a ride down the road. Starting bogging down then stalled and I couldn't get it started again. I got a bit annoyed with it and stripped it all down and it has just been sitting for the last couple of weeks until I got a bit of motivation back.

    At least I know how to get it back on properly now.

    Well, not what I've done today...more like the last few days.

    Stripped the drag bike down for a good cleanup before doing some test & tune runs this Sunday (looks like I'll miss the Club250 end-of-summer function).

    Did engine valve clearances...a few inlet outside of range and all exhaust close to getting out of range. Now they're all at the upper level. This is the engine that my "mate" did for me. I checked the clutch while I had it out of the bike and surprise surprise there was 6 friction plates in there and a mixture of steel plates!? Most of the steel plates were the 1.9mm ones and there was 1 1.6mm plate. Changed the clutch pack back to standard (5 friction & 4 of each of the steel plates). Also blueprinted the boots onto the head. Cylinders 1, 2 & 4 were way out and someone had used loctite on them). Now they all line up (almost) perfectly and the carbs went on as easy as pie! I've also installed the blueprinted carbs that have the individual inlet trumpets aligned with their throttle bodies.

    Engine is back in the bike and putting all the bits back on tomorrow for a test start before putting the bike on the trailer for Sunday. I replaced all the leads with new flexible leads (thanks @Murdo) and I will be running Iridium plugs for the first time. Not expecting any performance increase from the plugs, but knowing they won't foul is one less thing to worry about. Hopefully forecast rain for Sunday doesn't eventuate.
