Well, Im home too and again had a blast, although I expected my weekend to be somewhat different. I had decided to take the MC22 down to Drake but since the engine swap, its been a bit iffy and I couldn't really ever put my finger on the source. I had a spare set of carbs so Frank and I rebuilt them on Friday, they were cleaned to within an inch of their life , then fitted to the bike and balanced. I did a test ride and had a moment where I downshifted and heard a horrible screech from the engine, Frank test ride it and he was happy with it, but I had my doubts. I actually spent Friday night searching for a registered bike on Gumtree and couldn't get one in time that had a current road worthy cert.

On Saturday I met Frank and Darren at the shed and took off around 12, first stop was fuel then off to meet Kirk and Mick at Beaudesert, the whole time I was riding I was waiting for the Honda to **** itself ( Darren picked up that I a tad cranky), lucky it didn't. We had a quick bite of KFC and with Mick and Kirk in tow, we headed to Woodenbong to top up the fuel, then it was off to Drake. The road from Woodenbong to Drake would be a pearler if the government would fix the road, but it is in a really poor state of repair with pot holes everywhere and thousands of these potholes have been patched with bitumen but its not even close to being flat. I have ridden this road about 3 years ago, I had hoped it would have been fixed but it is still crappy, I'm not sure how the locals put up with it.

We arrived at Drake and met up with our NSW crew, we sat down to a good feed , a few drinks, then it was time to play some pool and listen to some music. I certainly drank my fill and headed off to bed knowing I had to be on the north side on Brisbane for a family lunch the next day.

This morning I awoke with a pretty solid hangover ( Brian and Darren are bad influences on me), a quick shower and an iced coffee bought me back to life. My wife had issued me instructions that I had to be in North Lakes by 12 for lunch, so I let the lads know that I would be taking off early on my lonesome. About 7:10am, I started up the MC22 and hit the road, it was bloody cold and my windscreen and visor was fogging up. As I was pushing it to make lunch by 12, I thought the quickest way home was back the way we came yesterday ( rubbish roads and all), it was pretty cold and after an hour I lost feeling in my legs so it was time for a break.

I made it back to Woodenbong and topped up my tank, then headed back to Qld. A quick pit stop in Beaudesert for some breakfast and headed back to Brisbane, I was even 20 mins early for lunch.

So all in all, we had 3 x 250cc bikes, which isn't too bad seeing as though this crew have been around a while and many have moved onto larger machines. As Murdo said, awesome company, cant wait to do it again lads, I will tee something up for later in the year.

We do these rides twice a year, one that I tee up and one that Murdo tees up, If you are thinking of coming on one of these runs, then please do, its a lot of fun and its cool when you get to ride with other 250cc owners. We all come from very different backgrounds, we have a web developer, IT admins , a radio DJ, an ex school teacher and a few retired lads as well. We have a great crew, but it would be great to see a few more of you join us, we obey the road rules and the roads we pick are generally pretty good.

Well, I'm not quite "home" yet, but close enough. Great ride and good company. It was nice to meet a few more of the QLD riders. As Kiffsta was under strict instructions for Sunday, the remaining QLD riders decided we couldn't face those sh*t awful roads we came in on and instead went for a leisurely ride through the NSW countryside ending up coming through Byron Bay and then Northward through the hinterland. As @Kirk has already posted a couple of pics from our trip home, I thought I'd post one of the "elephant in the room". While we had 3 x 2fiftycc bikes make the trip, all the other bikes were 600cc bikes except for one...a BMW K1600! She's a big girl and plenty comfy. If I was going to tour around for a few weeks, I'd be looking to do it on one of these. Lovely.

And lastly, a huge thank you to Chris for lending me his shop bike (Yamaha FZR600) for the ride. I knew he was nervous about riding his CBR because of the odd noise he heard during his test ride, but she's plenty strong and, as you can see from the pics, she's a looker too. I'm guessing the noise is coming from the clutch basket, but I never heard it while riding so can't bet on it.

Looking forward to our next ride guys (and girls). Cheers

I can't add to what @kiffsta and the other lads mentioned earlier. It was a fantastic ride, and I really enjoyed catching up with everyone again.

I'm sure I lost a few fillings between Woodenbong and Drake, due to the state of the road. And they weren't potholes... but bloody craters! And I may have visited China after one almost swallowed my bike whole.

I take no responsibility for the copious amount of alcohol that may or may not have been consumed, but proudly claim the Drake Invitational Pool winners trophy with Chris as undefeated champs :lolsign:

Mike, thanks for picking a brilliant route home. From the country Drake, to the beaches of Byron, then winding our way back to Tumbulgum and finally twisting our way all the way to Nerang! It's a trek definately worth doing again and again.

Great ride, great people, lots of fun. The Fizzers went like a dream, and I found that my riding skills were much better this time than last time I went to Drake. Had a ball through the twisties and could really feel what the Fizzer (and myself) were capable of. Nothing better than hearing the waspy buzz of 2 Fizzers winding through the bends!

I just loved the look on the faces of the richy rich expensive Adventure bike crowd with their fashion designer matching husband/wife body suits as the mighty fizzers started and accelerated out of the Caltex servo at Armidale... It was basically a look of astonishment and confusion/disbelief.... Priceless!

Yea the twin 18500rpm shuffle in first and second gear :crazypilot: ..... stick that in your shiny BMW yuppy moto exhaust pipe and matching gay outfits

Such a contrast to the lads at the Lunatic on those monster KTMs that looked liked they had just been to Perth and back via the desert
