My plans for today were: oil and coolant change from the other day. Plus taking off all fairings (woohoo - naked Mia!) and stripping brake lines to send to Hell (help, please). No. Not happening. Instead, I got my bespoke windscreen after only 19 days! Yay!!! So, so freaking excited I'm surprised you didn't all hear my 'eeeeiiiiiii' from here. Post man sure did. Poor guy. Yeh. Then I actually opened it. Ordered 'deep purple'....got PINK! Couldn't be worse. Hahaha. Silly me. Nope, gets worse. Pink....with orange embellishment. Are you NUTS??? Arrrrggggghhhhhh! No, no, nope, no. Eiwwwwww. That thing is not going on my bike. You'd have to kill me first. A lot. And even then...I'm pretty sure my corpse would put up a fight. The worst part is that it's beautifully made. I mean, total craftsmanship. The curves are beautifully done, the straight edges have a lovely angle to them and the circles for the screws are just impeccable. Objectively, it's undeniably a thing of beauty done well...but under no circumstances is it purple. So I dyed it. Yeh, I did. Got my stuff together. Dyed Myself. Because that's what I do. No disasters at all because I totally bought gloves as you can see from the prior photo. Right? Right. Hahaha. I clearly need adult supervision. Dyed it while being judged by Splat. Yeh, totally being judged. Dogs are basically colour-blind really, so what does she know anyhow? That right there, that corner there? That's totally purple. So there. Pfft. Dogs... Oh, also got my official toolkit. I know it was ridiculously expensive, but....OEM. Yes, I do hate myself right now. Argh. So, that was my ridiculous day with my bike. I have tomorrow off too. I feel like I'm just tempting fate at this point.
Me either. I couldn't help myself. At the time I was looking for something else and then the lure of OEM stuck its hook right into my heart. Erk. Maybe I should really actually document this stuff? I'm pretty set on keeping this bike. And I'm about to completely strip her down. Maybe it would be helpful to others?
Start a "build thread" in the Suzuki 4 cylinder section... I really need to get stuck in and finish my Across so I can sell it Maybe this weekend....
I got the VTR delivered last night. Sigh. Will I ever learn?! They never look as good as the picture. And I didn't check about the write-off status... We’ll worry about the work next week, after I've finished the uni assignment... <shudder>
Keep the Across, they are a pretty durable bike, cheap to buy a second bike for spares, and they have a clever storage compartment. What other bike has that set up? And why don't more bikes have them? I should get my Across going, too.
Sonuvabitch!! So mountain high, to valley low inside of 24 hours! Got my WA (other WA lol) rego sorted on the bike yesterday. Today found out that the tires I ordered came in. Christ, it is impossible to sort 140/18 tires here stateside. I'm rocking pure Chinesium at this point. Unfortunately, in the process of removing the front wheel and fabricating a 14mm axle tool (I mean really, who threads an axle into place?!) I discovered the left fork seal was leaking! Guess I get to rebuild the forks now... add it to the list of stuff I've had to do. UUUUGH. On a positive note, it turns out the triple stand pin for the Monster fits the ZXR as well... thank goodness for small wins. For everyone's reference- the Pit Bull "Pin 2" fits the ZXR!
well, let start by saying, I have had a bad day bike wise, I finally decided to buy a ZXR which was available last night but sold this morning... oh well, I then made on offer on a SR250 which the seller agreed to, I told him I would be there tonight and he said yep, then I get a message saying the gumtree ad was taken down, I messaged him to confirm and he said don't bother coming, it sold... I was like arrgghhh not good. So I checked Facebook marketplace and responded to an ad for a VFR750 which has a blown engine, ( @U_B_WARE pointed me to this one) I made an offer which he accepted and drove to Ipswich to collect it. Just as I was driving away from picking up the VFR, I got a message from one of my customers, in fact he was my first customer who I replaced his ignition and exhaust on his Across. He was frantic as he locked his bike key in the storage compartment of his Suzuki Across at a major shopping centre. I was like oh no, I asked if the seat was off as I can get into them with the seat off, alas the seat was still on and you need a key to get the seat off. Double trouble. I drove to the shopping centre and met him, I was able to pry the seat back enough to undo some screws and remove a backing plate that allows access to the manual opener on the across, took all of 5 mins and I had his storage compartment open and he had his keys back. It was a good feeling to see him ride away, of all the days to leave your invoice book at the office OH well feels good to get him going. Good deed for the day Done !!. Now, a pic of the my VFR, even if the engine is blown, it is extremely tidy and the parts should sell well.
Phew! It is not written-off (was, but listed as inspected, though damage listed seems to be the same, except the forks seem to be from a CBR-RR because of brake mounts), nor stolen. But the shopping list is growing... Maybe I should start a wrecking business, too.. Nice looking vfr, @kiffsta, looks a lot like the 800! Don't worry about the ones you miss, there'll be more. I've missed a few and disappointment led to being too keen the next time. Other times I have been thankful for missing them. And I'm sure you'll seen that Across, again. :-D
Yeh, I'm baffled. It's ingenious. I very rarely go anywhere on my bike where I don't have to store something (hmmm...actually, maybe that's the problem...too much shopping!), so it's going to be super useful. I took the fast pack I had on my little 125 off and popped in on Mia, but since I'm not riding Mia until I get a few things sorted out I'm now not riding at all because I don't have that easy storage. Argh. You should totally get your Across going.
I have a VTR250 (2001) that I am parting out... let me know what you need and I may be able to help out
new iridium plugs in the bmw that i took to drake. started the cbx 6 cylinder and fuel poured out the carbies overflow. was going to take on a ride on sunday. are well another bike to fix.bmw fork seals and cbx carbies tmr.
Got the wheels and tires back from the shop after mounting. Remounted the front wheel, then realized I had the damn speedo drive pointed wrong. Broke my special tool I had to build. Went to the hardware store. Tightened the axle again. Too tight. Loosened it. Too loose. Tightened it. Too tight. Repeat until wheel doesn't drag but brakes don't make noise. Tighten and move to rear. Mount wheel. Find missing spacer. Un mount wheel. Replace spacer. Have other side fall out when attempting to reinstall. Replace spacer. Drop first spacer. Get everything in. Attempt to tighten tensioner. Who's bright idea was aluminum swingarm with steel bolts?! Fight tensioner. Break spanner. Almost round off tensioner. Find penetrant. Thread in, out, penetrant, in, out, penetrant. Get angry. Find 19v electric impact. In. Out. In. Out. Repeat. Do it on other side. Say "skip this" and go to bed. Ugh, lol. Tomorrow. Tomorrow I win!
I win!! Fixed that swingarm issue, got the bike on the ground. Decided against my better judgement to go break in the tires. I try not to ride on holiday weekends because drunk idiots. One SMIDSYd me. I didn't get hit when he decided to U-turn into me, but it was closer than I'd have liked. Parked the bike- but at least I got a couple nice pics before dude almost hit me! (Edit: oh yeah- I took a roloc disc to the rotors before I reassembled. Got rid of half the "warp" in the rotors! Pad transfer is a bitch!)
Didnt do a great deal... moved the 2 VRT250's out into the sun for a little while... removed both fuel tanks... 1 is going to Goldstar Repairs in Newcastle tomorrow for a bit of fettling. I didnt get time to do much else as I was roped into assisting with some planting of things that will die eventually, into pots Then I had to change a fluoro tube in the Garage.... then the day was gone Oh well... next weekend will be time to strip one of the VTR's and load up ads on ebay.... hopefully.
Received all the shims I needed and did all the valve clearances on the Triumph 955i.. (last time I just did 1 intake as I had no shims)... Anyway, getting good at doing the job now... had plenty of practice. Did all the intakes (needed doing) and all the exhaust (were just in spec... - so I improved them). Bike runs extremely well now
Re-jetted the Zxr's carbs to proper 'A' model spec - 125,128,128,125 main jets. Fitted new needles & seats - (Thanks Peter - Motorcycle spares warehouse). Seems quite a bit more willing in the mid-range rpm now & the top end is very nice. Replaced all the vacuum lines with silicone hose. Fitted the throttle close cable that was missing in action. Lubed all the cables. Gave the chain a birthday bath & re-lube. Tidied up the fairings a bit more.... Hopefully will be passed inspection for rego as of Tuesday! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
