Hi, i have a 06 zzr250 and have noticed sometimes when i change from 4th to 5th it wont grab 5th but doesnt remain in 4th and just free revs and i have to give it another click into 5th have also noticed that sometimes on the way down i can feel it click in the pedal but stays in 5th and have to give it another go. Has anyone else encountered this or know what the possible cause could be and how to remedy this? Cheers. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk
Check that all the external gear shift bits are cleaned, lubed, in the correct position and that the clamp on the selector shaft is tight.
Yeah it cant shift into 2nd unless moving, but its the 5th gear that stops this & has the bearings(neutral finder) and is next to 1st gear, on the zxr anyway, not sure if all kwakas are the same. Phteven when was your oil changed last? How many klms has it got on the clock? Have heard the shift forks wear on ZZRs also.
Sharky, pretty sure you are right on the money with the neutral finder position. Phteven: I had a very early model ZZR 250 (many, many moons ago) and it 'occasionally' did the same thing. Is it happening on most of your shifting, or just every now and then? I had a ZZR600 and ZZR1100 after this bike - and a similar thing happened on both bikes - and I'm like 'friggin' kwakas - I've owned and ridden a heap of 'em! Until I adjusted the levers in each case to better suit my foot positioning, and/or a new set of riding boots! I also made sure the levers were within moveable tolerances, and had to add/rig a circlip on one bike (600 I think, from memory), as the lever was moving from side to side too much - did it from new and was clamped to correct torque. By no means am I suggesting this is a solution - just in my experience it helped. I should note that I had the 250 checked for shifting issues and had all servicing done professionally, so oil and wear were not my particular issue. As Linkin suggests, make sure all is lubed and tightened as needed. Good luck with it.
