Hmmm looks like my Ultrasonic Cleaner won't be delivered till Monday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
What a difference an overnight soak in THREEBOND makes... Jets are now clear... rinsed off and blown clean... The same parts from the 2nd carby are now soaking and will be sorted tomorrow... I am not in a rush as I ordered at kit from Litetek and my ultrasonic cleaner will be here Monday... I will be away most of next week so with any luck... next weekend she will run... nicely
3bond is amazing stuff, and a ultra sonic cleaner is amazing as well.... I am thinking of getting a tumble cleaner for pots and frame parts as well..
Yep... I am going to get myself some Simple Green concentrate as well.. I love the stuff as a degreaser... removes bugs from vehicle paint (wax and polish as well though) etc... and you don't need much at all... There is a brilliant one which is Simple Green HD or Aircraft version... by far the best Wheel cleaner Have ever used and I had my own Detailing Business for a few years... so I have used pretty much all of them
I reckon i have enough old orbital sander's etc to make my own agitating cleaner tank Might even make up a Vibrating polisher/tumbler too
Hmmm that tumbler looks OK... it would have been good to see the results on the piece he put into it though...
or you know someone who has a aqua blaster and you pay them some money to use it.....looking your way @kiffsta
Well my 3 litre Ultrasonic cleaner turned up this morning and as I had a little spare time I decided to throw the various bits in to it to see how it worked.... initial feelings were I should have gone the 6 litre...lol Mind you... that is the equivalent of almost 2 FZR carby bodies and 1 bowl so not too bad I guess. I am still not convinced it is 3 litres as my jug filled it up to the line... still, it wont get used every day and it isnt too big a deal to move things around... Filled it with almost boiling water... hmmm 70 degrees might be a tad high... I left it for a while till it came down to 50. Added a good squirt of Dawn dishwashing detergent and around 50 ml of Simple Green Orange concentrate... and turn it on for 5 minutes... no real change in the colour of the water or the items in the basket.. so I put it on for 20 minutes and leave it alone. So 20 minutes a side seems to do the job... at least on these items... I didn't think initially that it had made much difference until I rinsed them in warm soapy water and then blew them dry.. after rinsing in clear water... all orifices are now clean and clear... air blows through all appropriate areas and there is a shine that I didnt notice before... If I was keeping the bike I would most likely build myself a tumbler and run them in there to burnish / polish them up but they came up OK.. I was more surprised at the final colour of the water than anything... I didnt realise they were THAT dirty.... lol Now I have to wait for the gasket / o'ring kit to arrive from Thailand and I can assemble them and see what the results are...
Once my seal kit arrived from Thailand I got stuck in and reassembled everything. Reasonably straight forward (once I knew how to raise the needle jet clips) and today I got around to re-installing them and (eventually) getting it to run. I was having a cow of a time trying to get the carbies back into the boots and then I remembered something about a piece of wood and levers... turns out a lump of 3 x 3 is the perfect size... laid across the carbies and using the hammer handle as a lever they just pop in quite easily. Everything done up nicely... fuel flows well from the pump...booster set hooked up to the battery and I start cranking.. Not even the slightest hint of catching... hmmm after many more tries (choke on.. choke off) I grab the carby cleaner and while cranking give it a squirt and whooshka... she is alive... I let the revs settle a bit at around 4000 and then give her some stick... The carbon that was blown out that exhaust.... lol turned my garage floor a spotty sooty black. It is slow to come back to idle and its not smooth at idle either... could be due to not having the air cleaner on as well.
I also wanted to change the colour of the instrument cluster as it had been painted white ( like the rest of the bike) before and quite frankly, it looked crap lol. So after a scuff and a wipe down it was coated with mag wheel silver and left in Natures Oven for 15 minutes. Then it was hit with the Shadow Chrome clear. But it wasn't quite dark enough for my liking so it was given another couple of light coats I will see how it looks on the bike tomorrow Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So not a lot has happened on this bike since then...mainly due to a 5 week holiday to the UK and then moving house etc etc... until last weekend when I decided to get her running again and start putting it back together... Well drained the fuel and then the pump dies... great. A new (2nd hand) pump arrives in the mail yesterday courtesy of @kiffsta (Motorecycle) and it pumps really well. With a little help from some Carby cleaner she started but wouldnt run.. I think I might need to replace those float needles. Anyway, I cant do any more until next weekend now when I will hopefully have it running and then start all over again.
try backing your AF mix screws out, I had an across that was a "B****** to start and all it needed by the AF screws backed out a bit more
Hopefully I remember that next weekend... I am leaving super early tomorrow morning hauling a 7 metre 3 tonne trailer up to Gunnedah... oh the joy of it.. I hope this wind eases off... that thing is 3.2 metres high and suffers a lot with cross winds Wont be back till late next Friday night...
