I got to work on a new air box today, pvc pipe fittings and a lot of mucking around. Popped it on and took the bike for a test ride around the block. It was smooth, no noticeable power speed gains. Smooth is good though. I'll clean it up and paint it this week hopefully.
Not much done to the bikes, pulled down the yz250 motor, thought about doing other stuff.... But I thought I would say, I've been on Facebook groups looking at bikes and things, and you guys are such a great group! There might be the odd crude sort of meme, or censored profanity, but nothing like the cursing, insults and put-downs that you get on Fb! You're supportive of others and their projects, for all our differences. Cheers, everyone.
Running out of things to do (well more like money than things ) Have removed the gaiters on the forks and replaced with dust seals, looks much better but prob not as protected.... Got my little brother to supply and fit some new tyres, after much discussion ended up with dunlop TT900 front and rear also went up a tad on size of the rear...Found some VF750 footpegs that I liked and after much grinding and swearing they are on.they feel much better under foot than the stock but look a tad like Dumbo's ears
Finally took the plunge to get a fruitier unsilencer. Bit of prep work required..... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Went to start the bike and no crank... battery dropped a cell. New battery. Went for a nice ride... and found two others.
Not my bike, Mr Grey's @GreyImport Medical experiments, well proof of concept actually. This is one of Mr Grey's emulsion tubes and I have sleeved it with an advanced polymer (bit of a wank there, expensive plastic would do). Yes, I am finally using my lathe. Lots of progress to come. Lots of issues of course but the reaming of the inside diameter was perfect and I see no reason why this would not be successful. I have also come up with another idea to stop the needles vibrating themselves to death at idle (where all the wear occurs). Not sure if that one will be possible. If you are wondering why use plastic, because brass is horrible, it wears out everything it touches, much as the poms loved to run everything in brass bushes, "fit bush in 'ousin". Open up an old British twin and see for yourself. Sorry Mr Grey, I have already destroyed 3 of yours so far.
Picked up a matching set of alpinestars leather pants ($200) to go with the jacket ($150). Not bad for $350, considering the two piece suits are nearly $1000 brand new
Rebuilt the front end of the CBX250. New tyres, rebuilt caliper, new disc, fork seals replaced, new exhaust gaskets. Just have to rebuild the master cylinder as it's leaking. Bike didn't have a battery strap so I improvised and made one out of an old serpentine belt. Stripped and cleaned the carby so it's running nicely now. Only thing left to do is the master cylinder before roadworthy.
Well another thing is that if you want to change your jetting, moving your needles up and down is just nonsense. Unless peak torque rpm has moved, what you should be doing is changing the diameter of the emulsion tube, and a lot of the time this is not possible because you can't get any.
Well, there was a little sand blasting (scratches sand from hair), knocked some bearings out of engine cases, and checked a counterbalance shaft timing (which was ok, so still looking for what is hitting and dragging) - 3 different bikes: ZZR project frame, the YZ250 project engine, and YZ250F. Didn't get far with any of them. I got distracted by changing the ZZR project... Need to make some decisions, less procrastination. After the MotoGP, of course.
My poor old mc22 was having starting issues , @Frankster diagnosed it As low compression in pots 1 and 2 so today I fitted a spare motor , will be nice to have a running bike again.
Prettied up the wheels of my 1982 Honda FT500. Scraped off the crud and corrosion, painted gloss black, polished the highlights and a couple light coats of clear. Ready for two new Avon roadrunners tomorrow.
Took the mc22 for a shakedown run now she has a new motor, rode quite well and my shoulder was okay for a quick run , but it hurt like mad when I tried to undo my helmet
Yea the Bonneville likes the roadrunners .... I put a new set on 9 years ago and rode it 200mtrs and parked it
