Not much to be said at all really & common sense prevails here. Even fuel straight from teh pump can have bits of crap in it. Over the years without an inline filter, all those little bits of crap accumulate in the carbs specifically those tiny filters attached to the seats. Doesn't take much at all to block them over.

Sparkling shiny finish inside your tank aint going to stop that happening unless you've got an inline filter.

Really? You must have very clean petrol in Pomland. I think that every one here has got a tank full of crappy fuel at sometime from a service station.
Agree to get the tank clean, but how do you only put 'clean' fuel into it if filling from petrol stations?

Just had an idea. How about filtering your fuel as it goes into the tank, then you don't need filters and get optimum fuel flow into carbies....

Looks like you guys already have something in Oz..... www.profill-australia.com

True, but they only fit dirt bikes with screw on caps, no road bikes with locking caps.
    Back to inline filters.

Thought i should start on pulling the rad off and the sump off. Coolant was pretty clean itself, but it looks like there is quite a bit of sludge built up in the rad. And the oil out of the motor looked alright, was really thin though, and smelled of petrol. And as you can see from the sump shots, it was covered in gravy-like sludge. ce323b2706ed1ad9ff4372947d0fe24d.jpg dcea6b3747b166d83e260f6a3fd6e12c.jpg 01ff78ab70853f9a752e6126b02168fb.jpg bbfe5633dee604b12add1bf11dc7a227.jpg 417557881a5991442111bf2c1b1420ba.jpg 91b2ba6d45f96e1a270f2333170b10c3.jpg 4a5d168fbba26414d9d728bbdf206330.jpg 13b3b23de8a5a4906247dea66366da53.jpg 26f1cc63fc99838047d939c572a348ab.jpg

Look's like the cooling system need's a good flush out.
I've cleaned my cars' radiator out with washing powder, put half a cup full in the radiator and fill with water, then start the engine and run it till it get's to half, then drop it and flush through with water, then repeat, do that until the water come's out clean and you'll be good to go

Can do it with compressed air as well while flushing them out,
the bubbles from the air blower gun help to dislodge stuff that's sitting in the bottom's of the water gallery's etc
It's surprising what can come out of your cooling system

A cup of 'handy andy' cleaner in the rad works well too.
That is why you should change the oil regulary.

Great, i go to put the carbs back together with fresh parts and seals and what do i find? This is what i find...
Anyone know how i can get the tip back out of there?
And what's the main effect that would occur if it weren't removed? ad4933586c9c3c2b3dd962af4d1fb2b7.jpg 57ee2753812773e467397a23c59616e6.jpg dff527f06641106e6631a041adc0cf8f.jpg 0c33cd4a2c9dbdbdd4b74c95f457fd22.jpg

No fuel from the pilot jet will get through to the carby bore if it's left there,
so massive flat spot from that carb when you touch the throttle.

Do you have an ultrasonic cleaner , might be able to vibrate it out?
On the FZR Mikuni's you can see the pilot hole inside the carby bore, so might be able to carefully poke something through to get it out.
On those carb's i'm not so sure

Spray some carb cleaner or blow an air compressor from the other end through this hole & try to blast it out. 20171115_190809.jpg

Cheers for the suggestion, but thanks to the suggestion of a friend i had already tried with an air compressor, unfortunately my compressor here can only get to 6psi and none of the fittings were small enough to fit the hole, so i couldn't get it to budge, so i think i might just be looking for some new carbs if i can't get it out.
Yay, more money spent on it.

I have 3/4 of a split carb here as spares, do you need the main carb that the throttle cables attach to?

Good idea, always somebody needing a slide or needle etc & not everyone has spares lying around.
