The round timing cover plate on the right side of the Vt spada and Vtr motor are sometimes quite problematic to remove without causing significant damage. I guess many have never been removed in their almost 30 years of service so its fairly understandable they get a little stuck, but they look quite nasty with the corners rounded off the cast alloy removal nut.
I have used breaker bars, rattle guns and on one occasion drilled down a 1/2 mm near the outside of the cover so I could locate a small punch and tapped it lightly with a dead blow hammer.
Does any one have any less destructive methods for removing these plates.

Got a picture of the cover?

A six point socket and breaker bar would be my first choice, and some heat around the case if really stuck.
