Assuming you did the online test and you weren't getting readings that were consistent across the phases? The short test is only one of the tests you need to do.

Hi everyone getting frustrated now and I am sure it's something simple. We bought a 2nd rec/reg put it in and the same result battery reading 12.77-79 then throttle up and goes to 12.8 and that's it.
Bought a new stator for Moto cheers Jonny put it in the father Inlaw put it in and pulled the positive lead out of the plug that goes to the rec/reg so I hope he has it in right.
Started the bike now smoke good sign .. Battery reads 13.5 ish with bike started revved the bike the volts jump up to 14.4 then 15.8 then up the 18 volts ahhhhhhhh
I don't know what to do.
We moved the positive lead on top of the rec/reg plug next to the positive did nothing then all the way to the other side and we get those readings he is using and old volt meter any thoughts

Hi Mate I'm trying to make sense of what you're doing but I'm not quite understanding. The battery readings sound better than what they were, yes it will increase as you increase the RPM.

    I don't get what you're doing with the reg/rec.

Hi joker I am not sure my father in law put the wires back correctly in the reg/rec the 3 yellow wires are on the bottom then the top right he had the black wire and the far left is the positive I though the positive or red wire went next to the black , if we plug it into the one next to the black wire we got not increase reading but if we put the red wire to the far left then we get a reading, the reading is better than before but to get a reading of 18v when throttling on something is not right

Hi Joker sorry to say these GSX250's are 'renowned for this and it's going to need some cash throwin at it 'forget buying another standard GSX reg rec they are RUBBISH go get yourself one from a Honda CB250N Superdream and wire it in like this .....

    1. Black wire from reg rec to switched live from ignition (I usually use the orange feed for the coils)
    2. Red wire from reg rec to Battery Live.
    3. Green wire from reg rec to frame earth.
    4. 3 Yellows from reg rec to 3 yellows from geny

Chances are your generator has also burned out so you will need to find a reconditioned one 'don't buy second hand you'll just end up with the same issues AND you may need to put a new battery on it once youve done this it should be up and running again but 'be aware, when this fault occurs and gets bad it 'can sometimes melt and fuse wires together in your harness or at the connectors so check it over carefully before fitting new parts.

Only just noticed the date of this post I take it you'll have got her sorted by now then :D
