Hey thanks everyone as the bike started and runs. A bit of smoke but pretty good after sitting for 4 years. I expected a bit of smoke after all the stuff I put into it to get the motor freed up. All in all very happy.
Glad you got her sorted Lawman just keep an eye on her electrics now after a layup of four years she may 'or may not, give you some issues.
Thanks Cuda, It did make a few weird noises when first started but I let it sit and restarted and once warmed up it idled very well. Can't take it for a run because it is drizzling here for the first time in months and I don't trust the old tyres. Looking forward to my first test ride. Also it is leaking a bit of fuel so that needs to be sorted. Frank
Fuel leak eh hope you dont have to go taking them carbs off again as youve found out taking em off is easy it's the puttin em back on that's a pain in the Ass. Sort that leak throw some new rubber on her then take her for a test ride but I'd Er on the side of caution and not go too far initially just incase it works out she has a charging problem lets you down and you end up having to push her home, have you put a new oil filter in cleaned or replaced the plugs and changed the oil?
Well the fuel is coming out of the airbox drain under and at the back the airbox. I suppose this means that something in the carb is stuck.
OH DEAR ..this means carbs off again doesn't it sounds like a stuck float or badly set one I'd try just giving the float bowls a tap with a spanner first and see if its just snagged and see if it'll release. Failing that as much as you'll probably feel like crying or kicking the crap out of it (try not to do either) whip the carbs back off and have a look see .. I don't think it's possible to remove the bowls in situ with a small stuby screwdriver .. but you could try.
I agree with Cuda on this issue you have, the carbs will probably have to come off again unless you can remove the bowls without doing so. However before doing this just drain the bowls, remove the fuel hoses from the carbs & blow compressed air, (not to high a pressure,) into the inlet, it could just be some muck or Rust or who knows, that has got between the needle valve & its seat. If this has happened its always a good idea to place an inline fuel filter between the fuel tap & the carbs to stop this from happening again. The larger paper filter ones are the best, the standard in tank or fuel tap filters often don't stop fine particles from getting through into the carbs.
