Hi guys, I may be flying down to Adelaide in late September for a week with my better half. Any suggestions on what things to definitely see and do and where to stay would be appreciated. Also if there is anywhere to hire a bike from so I could take her on a ride around there and explore a bit would be helpful. Cheers!

Hmmmm...All the interstater's that come over and stay with us tend to do...... Hahndorf, barossa valley, birdwood mill motor museum, victor harbor....a few good weekend trips are wilpena pound, copper coast, kangaroo island....oh and we have plenty of church's :D As for bike hire there are a few places around but when I last looked into it was pretty pricey......

If the weather is good and you can hire a motorcycle, go out to the Amberlight Cafe at Lobethal on a Sunday morning. There might be a few other riders blowing out the cobwebs on their bikes. You can check out the original path of the Lobethal TT.

    Thanks Bob and Wozza,
Yeah...I know hiring may be too much to bother about but appreciate the heads up on some of the attractions. It is better to stay in the city or the beaches? Anywhere you could suggest to serve as a central location to most things?

Adelaide is so small that everything is pretty much an hr or so away....also being a local its hard to recommend a place...
Depends on your preference, city hustle and bustle(tongue in cheek as it is Adelaide) or quite relaxed country style.....
hit up google maps close your eyes and stick a pin...um better not :)

Fly over to Port Lincoln and do a shark cage dive. Don't do this if you get sea sick. The Barossa is good, so is Clare Valley (North of Adelaide). Adelaide is a pretty city if you like heritage architecture, lots of sandstone buildings and the like. Glenelg also nice...does the tram still run from there?

yeah:( But now they run all the way down the main street of the cbd all the way out to port Adelaide (if and when they get it finished, currently think it only reaches the entertainment center). There is talk of running trams to the airport as well.....

Wow, that's an interesting infrastructure idea! I'll have to come over for a drag meet sometime and catch up with the SA 2fiftycc crew. I used to spend a lot of time in Adelaide (not just for the F1). Haven't been there in years. Keep being asked to come over for the V8's, but never get my ducks in a row.

There's sightseeing stuff like the Mt Lofty Lookout, you can see most of Adelaide from there.
Clealand wildlife park is close by too.
Windy Point lookout at Belair is also good.
And Hahndorf German community is good for a walk and some nice food and sightseeing.
Glenelg is good for window shopping and the beach etc, not far up the road is Westfield Marion, then there's Harbourtown near the Airport if you want to do some factory retail outlet shopping (not as cheap as vic or nsw outlet's though) or take a walk down Rundle Mall in the city.
Port Adelaide is good for a look, lot's of old stuff down there and weekend market's on the dock's, Dolphin Cruise's
Whale watching at Victor Harbor, Granite Island with it's penguin's that come out at night, and horse drawn buggy that goes over the bridge to get there and back, the old Steam Train does a few trip's thoughout the day.
There's a 3 storey climbing adventure park at West Beach
Horse racing sometime's at Morphettville and Oakbank sometime's if that's your thing
There a big GoKart racing track at the cnr of Main North rd and Grand Junction rd's
There is the National Motor Museum up in the hill's at Birdwood, Melba's Chocolate and Confectionary Factory close by, the Big Rocking Horse too
For bike hire try Show And Go Motorcycle's at Somerton Park, heard it's a little expensive but a lot of visitor's still use them.
Plenty of good cafe's around the place, Rundle Street in the city, Glenelg, Brighton, Semaphore, North Adelaide etc etc
Golf course's at North Adelaide, West Beach and one in Belair National Park
Plenty of Winery's down South and up North.
Nudist beach at Maslin's down south, there's a couple of beache's that you can drive on and have a picnic, like Moana, Sellick's Beach and Aldinga.
There's an airfield at Aldinga where you can go up for joy ride's in old Biplane's etc, helicopter ride's etc, and the Big Budda is not far from there.
Lot's of good Bakery's about, Clarendon, Yankallila, Strathalbyn to name a few
And there's North tce in the city with the Casino, Museum, and Art Gallery in the city,
the River Torren's near the city has walking trail's and run's past the Adelaide Zoo, Adelaide Entertainment Centre for concert's,
You could stay at the Grand Hotel at the end of Jetty Rd at Glenelg with sea view's, easy to catch a tram into town.
There West Beach Caravan Park that has onsite unit's etc near the airport, Marion Holiday Park 20 min's south from there and all the bigger hotel's in the city.
Hindley street for pub's and partying, and the same down Rundle street
Traffic is pretty minimal in Adelaide so easy to get around

There might be an event on at the new Bend Motorsport Park, it's an hour and a half drive from Adelaide

You didn't mention Crazy Horse, otherwise very thorough. The Casino isn't your 'normal' casino. It's a converted old building and, at night, you can get the original pie floater out the front when you stagger out half cut and almost penny less.

Sadly the Pie Cart is gone these day's, it did move down near Victoria Square for quite a few year's though.
I think you can go to O'Connell Street bakery in North Adelaide and get one still, it's a 15 minute walk up the road from Adelaide Oval and St Peters Cathedral
I don't think it's as good as the original one from North Terrace though
The building the casino is in is the Adelaide Railway Station, the casino is on the second and third level's, just down from the corner of King William st and North Terrace
