    That is by design, engine will crank but no spark when the kill switch is off , I ruled the kill switch out when you said had spark

    Havent got to the carbs yet
    Fresh battery today, better spark but still won't fire (aerostart down the carbs )
    Checked coils and leads according to manual, they appear ok

    reg / rec - I wasn't sure which probe to put to pin 1 (now I see it is pos)
    neg probe on pin 1 -
    1+2=063.6
    1+3=0.49
    1+4=0.45
    1+5=0.75

    pos to pin 1
    18.1
    18.3
    17.2
    18.0
    pulse gen -
    probes to yellow and white wires coming out of the loom
    0.52 (with either + or - probe)

    I presume the reg/rec needs replacing
    Is it possible the reg/rec will stop the bike firing?

    You can try disconnecting the reg/rec plug. That will leave you running total loss and draining the battery.

    I don't think it's likely that a reg/rec can stop a bike from starting, but you never know, there are all kinds of strange gremlins in old bikes sometimes.

    Have you tried roll starting the bike down a hill? Be prepared to push it back up though :D

    Could someone please suggest where I would find suitable spark plug boots for my MC 22? ( 92 model )

    Put brand new plugs in it.
    Check your current plugs with a multi-meter if you like.
    All plugs measured between cap connecting post at the top and the body should show open circuit. Any resistance value other than infinity (high meg ohms), just throw the plugs away.

    Plugs are new.
    A plug boot is intermittent, I need a replacement. OEM or good quality.

    Ok. Check the plugs all the same.
    I have had brand new plugs go bad after a short run when the carbs have been playing up.
    Once they foul up, you just can not reliably clean them.
    A multimeter test is easy to do.


    You can rebuild the plug boots. They are difficult to pull apart but can be done. They are nothing more than a few contacts and a little 5k ohm resistor slug.
