Wow, those are absolutely butchered. Usually, corrosion sets in behind the dust seals... also, most brake clean products will swell rubber seals... brakes should be cleaned with warm soapy water and an old toothbrush as you probably know, sometimes the people working on your bikes at a shop are not the brightest (and I've had my moments) Suggestions... heat gun, flip over, and wham the thing against a block of wood until they fall out.
You could check with Titan classics. https://titanclassics.com/product/tzr250-titanium-larger-front-caliper-piston/
Hmmm I will need to get tham out and measure them.. The Titan Classic items are much cheaper than getting SS ones from the UK.. that kit for both brakes is A$336 but I already have seal kits for them.. It will depend on what condition they are in when I eventually get the pistons out.
The outer edge's where your's are damaged is usually just where the outer dust seal run's When you get the piston's out you should be able to see where the fluid seal sit's deeper inside the caliper Wonder how much it'd cost to have the piston's lightly machined and re-hardchromed ?
The guy from Titan is quite responsive to making them if the part is shared across multiple models. Might be worth sending an email when you get them out. I was going to make some for my Honda but have had trouble getting them TiN coated.
Probably not worth having these ones machined and hard chromed.. If the sizing is right the Titan ones would be good... I even looked at Calipers on AliExpress but they all seem to be 40mm mounting spacing.. and I couldnt find adapters to go from 82mm spacing to 40mm.. .
Managed to get 1 caliper fully stripped. It took the butane torch to almost burn the seals out to get the pistons out and they are really mangled. However, they may well be salvageable. After a good 30 minutes in the Ultrasonic at 60 Celsius with a nice mix of Simple Green (Orange) concentrate, Vinegar and water the bores look ok. There is a machined groove in the bottom where the brake fluid comes in. I don’t think the pistons are meant to go all the way down and that will keep any damage above the main seal. If they do leak I will have to find another good set of calipers I think as the piston kits for these are just too expensive. OEM kit or the titanium work kit well over $300 for both sides. If you ever were knocked back on register and told to do a full brake overhaul on an FZR250 you wouldn’t be getting any change out of $700 odd with new discs. Crazy prices. This was the other half after removing the pistons. About to go into the Ultrasonic cleaner. This is how it came out You can see the lower recess in this pic and the one after has some old sealing ring in the bottom to show where the piston should sit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Powerhouse in the UK have kits for just about everything. https://www.ebay.com/usr/powerhouse-uk?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 I used their seal kit for my Honda.
I finished the forks then took the KDX engine out of the other bike and returned it to the original bike. After all that progress, I decided to drag out a different project: zxr250. Started cleaning the carbies, until this: There was a leak in the can, probably fell and damaged the valve, or rust - that's coastal living for you.
Took the t500 for a spin , needed fuel so I stopped and filled her up, after 5 mins of riding , I had to stop at some lights my fuel cap fell off , spewing Ride home with one hand holding it on, I need to find a replacement pin Every time I brake, fuel would surge out. My poor old flabby became a fuel rag
Yep, that one looks decidedly worn , I have to admit , I had done around 2000 kms since the rebuild and she runs like a top, i suppose things like this are expected. I am working on getting it painted over the winter. She will look tops when she is back with her proper colours
Thought I would dry out the bike from under the covers after a big drop of rain Friday ... went for a startup as its been awhile with the FZR ... no start but it did leave a big puddle of fuel on the ground ... bikes shite me off Maybe Im blessed ... I spent a week recently on the roof doing repairs and replacement roofing and the flue from the woodfire has rusted in parts ..... and guess what .... nice rain , collected in buckets in my loungeroom .... back to square one ... 5 steps forward ... 10 back At least being single I dont have a woman to piss me off as well
I have been searching and I can get a set of CNC machined adapters that will allow the use of Calipers with a 40mm mount spacing which opens up lots of potential. They are $117 plus through Zenmarket so I will search a bit more but if I get them there are plenty of brand new calipers from China for not a lot of $$ Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Received a call from a young fella in Toowoomba who wanted to offload a cb250f hornet , he’d recently had surgery and could no longer ride , he had pulled a few bits off but said it ran, so I bought it I figured I should try and find something else to make the trip worthwhile , a few mins later I spotted a pair of ts185’s , I only bought one of them , funnily enough it had almost everything I am missing, all I need is a front fender Left at 2:30pm, home by 9pm will a van load The hornet is too good to pull down , might put a correct headlight on it and sell it . Now am half way to rocky for a family event , @ShaneP has given me a tip on a large cache of old dirt bikes so I will inspect them tomorrow, I guess that makes this a business trip
I have a mate in rocky who is a sparky , every time he comes to Brisbane he replaced light switches and does loss of electrical work at my house , now the roles are reversed , I get up this morning in rocky and he presents me with a 2015 crf110 that idles but won’t rev, stripped the carb , main jet and slow jet are blocked solid . Trip to auto barn to buy some threebond , I cleaned them up reassembled the bike and it would rev but stutter. Stripped it again, found someone had removed the af mix screw and left the rubber o ring in there crushed up and did it up, once I fished it out and flattened the seal back out , I was able to put it back together in the correct order and it now runs like a bought one. His daughter is stoked as she can ride again My mate has a brand new klr650 and I jumped at the chance of a test ride , I was suitable impressed as I have never ridden a larger capacity dual purpose / adventure bike. Not sure I would buy one as they are really tall and it wasn’t easy to throw the leg over well, that was until he said stand on the foot peg then throw the leg over
Got my 11yo daughter to sit on my bike on the stand. She played with it for 3 hours while I built my new workbench and tidied the shed up. She absolutely loved it. I showed her how to hang off the bike, how to use the controls, change gear etc.
