Hi. Just bought a Trackday dunger MC19. Won;t start, so out with old plugs for a start! New plugs in, except #3, won't tighten. Borescope used, and yep, stripped! Can this be successfully Helicoiled? If not, I would love a complete head if someone has on lying around.

Helicoils if you never want to take the new spark plug out again, leave for the next guy, who will probably hate you for it.
Time serts if you will want to replace the plug every so often or take it to a shop that can do it for you easier, quicker and with less chance of you needing this book................. ladybird book.jpeg

    Ha ha ha. :thumb_ups:
Use the insert. Put plenty of sticky grease on the tap as you thread for the insert to collect all the chips/shavings, clean up and screw in insert. Fit new plug (with some copper paste on threads) and ride away.

The shop has it. They're fitting a heli-coil. But I was told it would cause detonation? Simple fix is I need a MC19 head if someone has one?

Could have it welded, then drilled and tapped if needed

time sert better than helicoil and will be durable.save cost of replacing the head.

Timesert's are solid 1 piece internal/external thread's with a flange at the top to limit how far it can screw in and are a permanent fix, v's a helicoil which is a spring type insert and can sometime's come out
The Timesert is around 3 to 4 time's the price of a Helicoil

When the shop said the Helicoil could cause detonation, i reckon that they may be thinking the Helicoil will be hotter than the alloy head which it is threaded into, and will retain the heat a bit longer than the head
I don't think it will be a problem personally, but just keep an ear out for any pinging just in case.

Timeserts are also steel.. where Helicoils are mostly Stainless steel. Either way make sure anti-seize is used in future and dont over tighten them.. very common problems.

Just a quick update. The replacement head is great. I will forever make sure I put a tiny bit of ''Copper-Slip?'' on the threads in future, and only do the the plugs MYSELF! and I fitted a ''remote'' fuel tap, run the carbs dry, and add some ''Fuel Doctor?'' to the fuel in the tank. May not be the perfect thing to be doing, but with tracks and things in Limbo, got to keep the ''Trackie'' interest flowing. Netflix is far too easy!

I prefer to drain the carbs, leaving a bit of fuel in the pump to keep the seals wet.
