I picked up the latest copy of Australian Motorcycle News and they have an article and pics on page 9 of a potential new Yamaha 250 single cyclinder 4 stroke sports bike to compete with the new Honda CBR250R. The photos show a bike similar to the Yamaha R15 with 2 seats instead of a longer single seat as show below. While Im quite partial to the 4 cylinder sports bikes of the 80's and 90's, it seems that manufacturers are going with singles which supports the new Moto3 racing category. Your thoughts ? Chris
Re: Yamaha YZF250 ? Maybe.... Hmm, looks like its going to be called the R25 http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/motorcycles/speculation-yamaha-r25-honda-cbr250r-35701/
Re: Yamaha YZF250 ? Maybe.... pure and simple cost, plus the Moto3 is moving from 125cc 2 strokes to 250cc single cyl 4 strokes. shame really, CBR250RR , FZR250RR and ZXR250's are going to hold their value as we wont see them new from the manufacturers again Chris
Re: Yamaha YZF250 ? Maybe.... I guess its more economic as well? "that CBR, with revs so nice, naturally say the r twice"...I am glad i was able to pick one up then...
Re: Yamaha YZF250 ? Maybe.... its the end of an era of 250 screamers. :'( At least i have my baby (even though it isnt running right, and i cant afford to fix it at the moment.
With the run up to the biggest motorcycle show on the planet that happens every year, the EICMA, the rumor mills have gone agog about Yamaha all set to launch a 250cc motorcycle model, replete with a full fairing and styling reminiscent of the smaller R125 and the R15. Dubbed to be called the Yamaha YZF R25, the speculations have even gone on to suggest a 250cc, twin cylinder engine for this motorcycle with a likely power output of 35 bhp. Also amongst the various rumors is the assumption that this motorcycle would be built in India, leveraging the country’s advantage of being a low cost-high quality manufacturing hub. Such a measure is said to give Yamaha similar benefits that Austrian sports motorcycle major KTM has been deriving by getting its partner Bajaj Auto to build Duke 125 and Duke 200 models for international markets. Given that the made-in-India Yamaha R15 costs about INR 1.2 lakhs or just over $2,000, the expectations around the Yamaha R25′s pricing center around the $4,000 mark or about INR 2.5 lakhs, which should be easily achievable in case Yamaha really builds this motorcycle in India. Yamaha has always been a motorcycle maker which builds focussed motorcycles. For instance, the R15 is one of the least priced motorcycles that money can buy for track use in India. So, while the Honda CBR250R and the Kawasaki Ninja 250R have mainly been positioned as a sports tourer, expect the Yamaha R25, that is if it ever makes it to production, to lean more towards track use than doing duty as a sports tourer. All said and done, there has been no official word from Yamaha about a 250cc motorcycle lined up from EICMA 2012 even as there have been no spyshots or accidental leaks, which usually is the norm ahead of big launches. So, you’ve got to take this bit of news with a fistful of salt even as we’re less than a week away from the curtains to be raised on EICMA 2012 Taken from http://www.indiancarsbikes.in/motorcycles/rumor-yamaha-yzf-r25-sports-motorcycle-might-see-an-eicma-2012-unveil-64500/
Looks like its now confirmed !!! http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news-new-bikes/yamaha-confirms-250cc-sports-bike-again/22418.html

The Kawasaki Ninja Z250 was unveiled first in Indonesia and this could be the case with the upcoming 250cc sportsbike from Yamaha as well. A top Yamaha official from Indonesia has stated that the Japanese motorcycle maker is indeed working on a 250cc motorcycle. The official goes on to say that the segment is attractive as 250cc motorcycles are becoming a trend. However, an exact timeline for the launch of Yamaha’s 250cc motorcycle wasn’t given by the said Yamaha official. Also, the upcoming 250cc motorcycle from Yamaha is expected to be made available in both fully faired and naked versions.
Yamaha Indonesia confirms 250cc sportsbike for late 2013 launch Posted on May 3, 2013 by Team Bike India http://bikeindia.in/yamaha-indonesia-confirms-250cc-sportsbike-for-late-2013-launch/ http://www.autogadget46.com/2013/05/yamaha-yzfr25-launch-at-end-of-2013.html
You have to remember the manufacturers still need a market , there building & selling cheap and targeting countries that could benefit from a 'named' cost effective bike for everyday commuting and economy(as the chinese clone bikes are selling like a whore at a hotdog stand irregardless of poor build quality etc) , yes we all adore the mini 'supersport' but that era is well and truly over, as for the rest of us with modern full size more advanced bikes (efi! who's complaining) going for cheaper than the old 250s but can also be had brand new for decent price (or atleast the jap ones). All the manufacturers are now on the bandwagon with triumph also releasing its 250. The 125's wont pass epa in most countries now , hence the 4 stroke single cylinder .
Its like everything these days......build or make it in Asia with the cheap labour and send it off to us rich westerners to drool over. A sports bike is not something that would have a big market in 3rd world countries...its just not practical ..... u cant carry your wife,kids,3 chickens ,a pig and a bag of rice all at once! I guess the big advantage is only having 1 carby to get right instead of 4!
I think It Looks Same so Its May Be Called R25. For Know More https://www.dynamicdistrict.in/tag/yamaha/
I think Australia got the YZF R3 instead of the R25 ? Current model is $6299 AU plus government charge's and registration etc https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/details/2019-yamaha-yzf-r3/SHRM-AD-522658/?Cr=4
I think @sagar didn't realise this post was from 2013... I really don't think Yamaha will sell the R25 in Australia, since the R3 is doing so well, and competing with the Ninja 300, CBR 300, and other 300cc modern models.
