Thank you yes I will wait to I see what else I need. I had a quick check on ebay and best I can do from there is about $35 AU delivered, will also ring a couple of Yamaha dealers tomorrow and see if I can score one locally as they are common so so many models. Cheers

 

Std barrel and piston arrived today thanks to Andy

 

Got some bits from IMPEX today, interesting experience, ordered on the 10/9, shipped on 13/9 arr today 18/9 so 8 days from order to into my hands not to bad, only the freight is a bit steep, near $30 for a $10 part, Ouch

 

Just some black caps that sit in the top of the cam caps, mine(like a lot of bits) were stuffed and it actually had white one and 3 black plasticy looking ones I like the free freight idea, cheering, but in truth had I bought them from a bike shop (if they could get them) I probably would have paid about the same, so overall, I am happy with the service, like Andy said, should wait till you need a few and only pay one lot of freight is far better, but the way I have been progressing, it has not happened that way for me, oh well

 

Starting to put Rex back together again

 

I ran into the guy who sold me the SRX yesterday. We had a nice chat until he started gripping that he had sold the bike to me too cheap. I asked him a little about its history, and he assured me it went real good and never had any mechanical issues. I asked him then how come the piston and bore was stuffed, barrel rooted, and they were oversize from standard items, no gears on the oil pump, several obviously replaced parts ie: new stator, coil, rectifier, new speedo, odd cam caps, dowels and washers missing ect ect etc, also, the bike had 90psi compression instead of 190? he started to stammer and make excuses and quickly faded away. I did not say anything to him about the state of the motor till he started, as I test rode it, knew it had problems but also was in reasonable shape for its age and with lots of TLC had some potential to make a nice bike and I offered him a price that I could live with in these circumstance. I did not argue with him, he accepted my offer and I accepted the issues I found. End of story, no need to gripe at me about it when we met. Anyway, I don't think I will see too much of him anymore. Some people are funny eh? I wonder if he thought it went well with such low compression what he really did know about bikes. Oh well, onwards and upwards. Today I got the barrel and head back on with nice new gaskets, all torqued down correctly so next put the cams back one, recheck clearances and line up sprocket ect etc and wait for new oil pump gears

 

Same here, 3 exhausts and 1 inlet, and yes, 1 tight one, oddly, it was the side with the correct set but all sorted now, the dowels missing between head and barrel and no washers on one of the studs under the exhaust ports got me, how do you put a bike back with bits missing??

 

Driven Oil gear arr today, from Partzilla, took exactly 2 weeks from order to delivery, only $8 shipping, cheering, all up, AU $13.46, I can live with that wonder what my local shop would have charged me?

 

Will do that when I have time in the next couple of days
