I took Kiffsta's advise today, i haven't brought a second hand starter clutch, i have a brand new old stock one on route from the uk. The original price was more than i was willing to spend, however i made an offer than wasnt too much more than second hand units and it was accepted. So happy times ahead.

    Sad day today.
I took the starter clutch off, managed to change the springs and get it working.
So i got the bike started.

No abnormal noises or anything, rev's very well and strong, just its pouring smoke, white smoke with blue tinge. There is oil pouring from the exhaust, when i say pouring its not like a funnel, but its dipping out of the weap hole at the front of muffler when you give it a rev or two. not sure if the exhaust has a lot of oil in it or its burning that much. But at this stage it looks like either an engine rebuild or replace. It could be possibly stuck oil rings, but we will have to see how it progresses.

I dont need to get it on the road next week, i got a fair bit of time, so i might just get it all together, keep an eye on oil and water levels, heat cycle it a few times, and if no good before winter, tear the motor out and build it during winter.

I just spoke to the guy i got it off for confirmation of possibly what it is.
I remember him saying he regularly put oil in the cylinders to keep it lubricated whilst sitting.
He did have it filled to the point where it was coming out the weap hole in the muffler. So its possible that this is the cause of all the smoke.
So when i get a chance i'll take the exhaust off and clean it out.

    Fingers crossed. Wish me luck.

And there you have it. It will be fine. Get it rideable and take it for a spin and it will clear.

So i received my replacement starter today, Its cactus. The magnets are no longer attached to the housing and spin with the comm. So i'm on the lookout for another starter again.

On my journeys today i stopped by the auto elec's, spoke to them about it and they said as long as its intact the magnets can be glued back on, so i made sure to get some super strength araldite. when i came home, i cleaned up the housing and magnets, placed them with the correct spacing and such then waited a couple of hours, whilst not fully set they certainly weren't going anywhere. I tested it and its super smooth, quiet, and strong.

Also as another note, the 1wg starter fits in the 3en1 engine, even tho the 3en1 uses a different style starter.

So at least thats one thing sorted.

I got to finish the blaster upgrade with the new nozzle, foot pedal, wiper motor, etc... should have it done in the next day or two, then i got a cx650 motor to replace the rings. Once they both done i'll be getting right into the FZR. Fun times ahead :)

Nice mate. I have a few bits from my 3EN which I nolonger have (CDI, litetek carby kit unused, few other bits and pieces). Will let go cheap just to clean out my shed a bit, let me know if you're keen. I loved my 400, it might not have revved as much as the 250 but the increase of power and the comfort of the bigger bike made it so much more fun for me.

So a little update, still waiting on the reg from Kiffsta, hopefully arrives this week.
Also waiting on boots from Litetek, hopefully this week too.
I still need a battery which i should sort out this week.

I have front brakes, i used a spare 5/8 Master i had about and it worked a treat.
Forgetting the 20 year old tyres on it at the moment.

I took the headers off today, got my oxy/acl out with a heating torch, heated the exhaust up from the collecter (exup valve removed), got a fair bit out that was around the exup valve area. Put it back on, no smoke from headers at all.

The muffler does have oil in it, so a few rides might clean it out enough, if not i'll just replace it.

But so far the bike is going to be a go-er :)

I just received my genuine 3EN1 & 3EN2 parts book. You are correct @Jethalter, the 3EN1 uses 1WG-13597-00 for the inlet manifold rubbers. Same as the 1WG.

    More lucky guess aye.
Might be worth another batch of those manifold rubbers if you find some others keen ??

Not very likely. It requires multi-piece tooling and just too much money. I just did that batch from Flourosilicone as an experiment. In any case the Chinese will have some cheap. rubbish versions available soon and the punters will choose those.
