I still have a spare set of carbs coming from the seller, I can measure up the distance between each carb throat and let you know.

Never seen an across cylinder head, do they have provisions for an inlet manifold per cylinder? I seem to recall that they are dual twin throat carbs with only two inlet manifolds.

yeah inlet side they are one per, airbox side they are dual.
i know the gsxr has different angles to the across, so you cant head swap. but i'm wondering if they the same spacing and port od. would be cool to ditch the across carbs for something that doesn't have bakalite slides.

Today I went poking around the cooling system on the GSXR, as the thermostat housing was dripping. The coolant swelled the spark cap seals on #3 so I'll have to replace those.

Thermostat housing was pretty rough inside with corrosion, scale and coolant crystals, so I spent some time cleaning it up on the wirewheel (inside and out) and finished the mating surfaces on a belt sander. Need a new thermostat o ring to stop the leak.

Moved on the water pump, same story but not as bad as the thermostat. Impeller is good.

Refilled with fluids and sprayed threebond down the ports and cranked it over, repeat x3 and let it sit.

Litetek kit ordered last week, need to order some new emulsion tubes and replace all the jets, can't find keyster kits so might have to go genuine, I also have one cracked slide housing, second set of carbs coming from the seller of the bike. Have to order new manifolds and air box boots, as well as clamps (discontinued) and it would be a runner.

Fuel tap was messy with rust but cleaned up enough to be serviceable.

Once I have it running I will decide how far I will go with restoration, to be rideable it needs fork seals, tyres, brakes, final drive and some correct length shock dog bones.

Wondering whether to order bits and pieces as I need them or do a big order and have it all in one hit and one postage cost.

As usual all the parts websites have the wrong bits listed, even down to tyres... it has an 18" rear and runs the same sizes as the zxr's - 110/70/17 and 140/60/18. Have to check what the steering geometry is in comparison, zxr's are sporty but uncomfortable, hope the GSXR is better in that regard.

Check the needles and emulsion tubes first. They might be okay. Same with the jets, if they clean up okay no need for new ones.

Needles are ok, tubes are ovalled out and all the jets are blocked solid and mangled, believe me if I could get it going right now I would have, I want to ride it!

Transport company doesn't take loose parts, the seller is going to send them in the mail along with the receipt of sale for the bike which he forgot before.

So with all the corona virus nonsense going on at the moment, I can't get parts shipped from Japan via EMS. @kiffsta has hooked me up with some parts that should be in my hands soon, including some much needed inlet manifolds for the carbs

I'm still waiting on the seller to do me a receipt for the bike and send the 2nd set of carbs. I might just have to re-assemble what I have with the litetek kit and pop it together and get some fuel going just to see how it runs.

I ended up soaking all the jets, needles and tubes in threebond and got them cleared out. Everything is stored in that organiser in the above pictures, waiting for parts!

I was eyeing some parts on Buyee and scored a new thermostat housing and some 2nd hand inlet manifolds, but I can't get them shipped here!

Okay, thanks to @kiffsta @maelstrom and @GreyImport for hooking me up with parts needed to get this project moving.

Tonight after work I stayed back and got each individual carb assembled with new seals and o-rings, and assembled the set. Just need some caps for the vacuum ports on the diaphragm caps and they are ready to go Unfortunately no glory shots as my phones camera is broken! Time for a new phone I think. I've set the mixture screws to 2 turns out and will adjust and balance as necessary.

Long term I am going to replace all the brass bits, but my originals will do just to run the bike and see how the motor is. The main jets are a bit pitted in the exterior so not sure on their sizes, but everything is clean and clear, Nothing badly mangled either.

All the needles are 5CF9 type and the tubes are 518's. the profile of the needles looks very similar to what my bandit 250v had, a 'fat' profile and not much of a secondary taper. Much different compared to the ZXR250's and the keihin carbs.

No dramas with stripped screws or breakages on this set of carbs - huzzah! Much unlike my experience with the FZR250 sets I've worked on. The bolt that holds the jet housing and emulsion tube in place has its own dedicated brass spacer, a better system overall and less chance of breaking the screw in the emulsion tube.

Tomorrow I'm going to get the inlet manifolds fitted, make up a throttle cable (boss has a Venhill cable kit, very handy, already repaired a few clutch cables with new inners etc) and get the bike started!

Was supposed to get an air filter delivered today, but the eBay seller sent me the wrong item with an invoice for a completely different person... so it will be running without the air box for now. Also need to get the fuel tank te rusted, checked for pinholes and repaired if necessary, and then painted.

After that, bearings, brakes, forks/shock links and tyres, then I can take it for a ride!

    It lives!

Heat gun was necessary to get the boots onto the cylinder head, and the carbies into the boots. Got everything all tightened up, added fuel and battery.

Due to the threebond engine conditioner prescribed in copious amounts on the back of the valves and into the cylinders, it took a fair bit of coaxing and some starting fluid to start firing, and was initially only running on 3 cylinders (#3 was not firing), but came good very shortly.

Once running on its own devices I set the idle and let it warm up. Workshop got a bit smokey due to the threebond burning off.

I am now at the stage where I can start buying more bits and doing more work, now that I know the engine is a runner with no major dramas.

Wow that sound's pretty good, way different to the old FZR's with carby issue's and clutch rattle's etc etc
