OK, so my work phone has been quiet.. I am told not to go and see customers / travel and because of a sore throat I cant go and visit my Son in Hospital so I played a little today with the Postie Bike.
My new plastics arrived last week and the 6V bulbs turned up today so I started sorting out what does and doesnt work..
Confused me a little at first as being 6V the lights only come on when the engine is running..
Headlights work... tail light and brake light work, indicators and buzzer works as does the horn so all that is good.
I need to get myself some filter oil so I can install the new Uni Filter and then I might be able to fine tune the carby.

Next on the list is fork seals and checking the brakes plus sorting out the front wheel into the right position... the PO has the brake backing plate in a weird spot so you cant adjust the front brake... but that will be an easy fix when the front end comes off for the fork seals..
Then it will be about cosmetics... cleaning up the paint.. seeing what has faded too much and needs re-painting (front guard and fork uppers most likely), polishing chrome... Pics will come soon.. probably end up with a new thread...

They'll run just fine without one and I suspect the only difference would potentially be the fuel level between the two options - not something I've ever measured for comparison

Out of interest, is it running 5CT7's across the four or does it have 5CT9's in the centre two?

The BMW that I did some work on a while ago came back with the seat falling off the mounts. The seat base is fiberglass, so good for not rusting but not so good for holding the mounts with only a couple of pop rivets in each hinge, which of course have pulled out.
    FZR broken 003.jpg
I made some plates out of some steel scraps and drilled and silver braized two 5mm screws into each one.
    FZR broken 001.jpg
By carefully peeling back the cover, I was able to slip them in between the foam and through the holes in the base.
    FZR broken 005.jpg
Bolted the mounts on with some Nyloc nuts, reglued the cover and is ready to ride.

Looks like snot babies - EEWWW

FWIW - in amongst the irrigation stuff at the hardware I found a lid to a sprinkler unit which will go straight onto that brake fluid reservoir - if you've got a vacuum pump you could reverse bleed the calipers and lines and avoid any of that gunk going down through the lines

Got round to fitting the dashcam. Spliced the power into the rear brake feed under the seat, fed the wires for the screen and front camera under the tank, then through the left hand black plastic duct and up behind the dials, not the easiest route but everything is hidden away. Rear camera wire was routed up through the tail piece.

Well, I got a roadworthy on the gixxer, now to see if I can get rego on Monday... I don't have a registered bike anymore. I have some free time for a while now (thanks to covid19 shutdown), so I could work on bikes, but I also have uni, training, and a lot of cleaning up to do. I might not get to the bikes, yet.

Well today started off crappy with a few work phone calls ( normally don’t answer them on weekends) and when I finally got out to the garage it became worse.
Just went to look at filling the Postie bike forks up with the right amount of oil so they could be set aside for refitting after the headlight ears are painted and I notice a slight oil leak from a drain plug. No big deal, just tighten it.
Oh, that didn’t work, let’s have a look.
Some previous bumpy has managed to take out a piece of the sealing face, either with a drill or something else and now it won’t seal.
You can actually hear it dragging air in when you cycle the fork up and down.
Now to try and find another fork lower grrrrrrrr

Maybe some Metal filler will work.. cant hurt I guess... just pee's me off what people do.

To seal that I would put a little devcon in the cavity, wrap the bolt in gas teflon tape - only a few turns at most, test to see how many are reuired, add a washer, polish the bottom of it flat with 400 grade on glass, then wind it down to flush, not tight and wait for the devcon to set - then tighten, the gas tape will form the seal, with the flat washer over the top surface for security

I'd try some teflon tape (the thick stuff) first.

Tried the teflon tape... I have the real good stuff (for Irrigation pumps etc) and still leaks under some pressure. I will try the Devcon but not holding out too much hope as it is all pretty smooth in the recess so it might not take too well.
Searching for another set of forks as well.. might find some with better tubes yet ....lol

When I was a young'un, my brother holed the timing cover on his Triumph. I brazed it up, filed it down and done. Got an oxy-acetylene rig? You will need to practice first before attacking said part. There is a fine line between doing the job and a blob of molten aluminium on the floor.

Contacted the same guy on eBay. He says the forks are good in the travel area where mine are quite sad so will probably end up getting these and combining the best parts from both sets.
