Hi all, Been a while since I've been around, it's good to be back! Recently picked up an srx250 that was incomplete and not running. Plan being to get the bits it needs, get it running, then slowly get all the other stuff. I've noticed parts for these are getting a bit scarce.. Replacement throttle cables seem to be non-existent. My cables are rank but we'll see what a clean and lube can do. Carbs? Apparently they are getting on a bit and don't cooperate well. I still haven't found a full rebuild kit for one. Found a few gaskets and needles etc in Japan and UK but nothing complete. What tyres do people run on these too? My original plan was to actually gut the bike and convert it to an electric but its grown on me, seems to be a real solid bike. We'll see what happens!
Welcome back, @Andych , @2valve and @Stubanger might have some part's left over from their bike's ? The Teikei carby's are pretty much the same as the 4 valve XT250's too
Haha thanks for the welcome back guys. Had a busy few years at uni, finally finished and got a job. Work at school it's been flat out. This covid-19 has really messed things up! Thanks for info. I'll keep at it and see what other things I may need. I read they shared the same engines but I just didn't know about the carbs, I'll look into it! Thanks again! Will post some pics when I get the time. Cheers
I wouldnt worry too much about the carbys... unless you have a torn diaphragm you really only need to give them a really good clean, unless a previous owner has been in there and killed jets etc. There are no "full rebuild kits" other than a Keyster kit... and they dont include the diaphragm so really they are not worth the $$ unless your jets are screwed. Normally brass items dont wear so unless they have been butchered I wouldnt bother changing them.. Just use threebond to clean it all up. Replace the float valve as that will get hard over time... Even if you have a torn diaphragm there are alternatives out there... As for throttle cables.. you can keep an eye on the Japanese Yahoo site through any of the trading houses.. I prefer to use Zenmarket but there are others.. I picked up a pristine set a long time ago. You can no longer get one of the cables.. not sure which one now... maybe the XT250 will work although not sure on them either. Post up some pics so we can see what you have and watch the progress.
This seems to be an old link so I am not sure if it is still relative or now... http://jbmindustries.com/YDLS.html
I hear ya. I'll just give them a clean. Unfortunately I don't have an air compressor to blow out all the passages. Have been keeping my eyes peeled for cables. Ended up getting some cheapo wire and I'll try my hand at rewiring them. At least with the old cable out I'll be able to give the guide a proper clean. I did actually come across that site, bookmarked for future reference
Back Edwardo. Agree what Andych has commented on. You can get throttle cables made to suit , iv'e already spoken to one supplier that said no problem to make. Not sure of the cost though. If your after new O.E throttle cables , i know where one of them is sitting on a shelf. I'f you'd like it , PM me and i'll grab it for you , as he should still have it. There is also another supplier of carby kit to suit the SRX 250 , but as the guru Andy has mentioned they are NOT a full kit. I'f your diaphragm is torn , i think i have a spare 2nd hand one in the shed , can send it if you need it. Have other loose parts also so if you get stuck , just ask and i'll have a look for you. My apologies for taking so long to reply .
