    Yeah,
Sorry, I forgot to review previous posts.
    On a slightly different note,
Anyone ever used a "gunson colourtune" ?
Just wondering if it may be cheaper than buying a bucket full of jets.
    Thanks

I have a colourtune but have only used it on car engines. Bikes are much easier to get the mixtures right.
The colourtune will give you an idea of where your going as to jetting, but a bit hard to ride and look down the tube without a rolling road/dyno.

    Hi everyone,
Finally got the 1980 xs250 running and got a buddy to take her for a run. Everything sweet then it back fired and stop dead.
When he got it back to me there is no spark. I thought I'd check the timing in case it had slipped, I then noticed the cam wasn't going round. Took the points plate off and it had come away from the auto advance mechanism, nothing had snapped off and I was able to put it back in, with a bit of fiddling.
Is this normal or should it not be able to come out at all ?
    Thanks all
    EBB

Was it missing something that hold's it all together or had the bolt come loose ?
If the main bolt ( part number 12 in the diagram below) came loose then maybe use a daub of Loctite on the thread's
If the 2x screw's on the point's point came loose and fell out then Loctite them
If you ever need to loosen them again use a small butane torch on the head/s of the bolt/screw to break the Loctite seal

This picture is from the 1979 part's list it might be the same as your 1980 model

    No, nothing had come loose,
The cam had detached itself from the the unit. So it wasn't going round.
    Thanks

You can if you undo the bolt. Has anyone tried turning the engine over using the bolt on the cam?

The bolt holds on the unit, the cam is still able to move as it opens the Bob weights.
Does the outta cam come off on the one you pictured???

It's just a photo off the net
I would have thought the bolt/washer stop's the cam from coming off ?

No, the bolt sits inside cam.
I'm trying to find out if the cam is fixed to the unit, or has mine worn out ?
