Yes, they were (and still are) a great little bike. But, as @Linkin alluded to, they can be painful to work on. The locating of the RR in a cavity behind the rear cylinder exhaust header is one "weird" bit of engineering...almost designed to fail! And, there are some flimsy bits inside too. Some years back, my wife took an EFI VTR250 for a test ride and she (who weighs 49kg) said it made the VT250F she was riding at the time, feel like a piece of crap! Harsh. I then pointed to the asking price of her new favourite bike and we walked out of the dealership. I still ride my VT250F whenever I get a chance. And, every time I ride it, I wonder why I haven't ridden it more often...great little bikes.
Same chassis, frame rail issue on the Spada.Requires lying on your back with a torch...... getting back to the Indian... I think it’s ok for Indian to trade on their own history. The fact so many others do is , as someone else suggested, fairly high praise and questionable business practice.
