Hey guys how do I upload a video?

immabout to advertise a mc22, bike runs mint and is clean etc but has this awful noise at around 8000rpm

    it’s like a scream or a squeal

    get worse with rpm

bike doesn’t have any other issue, no lack of power, starts fine, rides fine just has this bullshit noise and I don’t wanna sell someone something that may have a sinister issue

it’s not a rattle, nor a tank rattle and it has the rank rubbers

not the exhaust , tightened and new gaskets

not the spark plugs they are new and tight

dropped the oil and no shavings etc in it

I ride the bike every day and it doesn’t have an issue but this bloody noise !

it’s like an exaggerated cam gear noise .

could it be a bearing in the engine gears?

mid really like to post a video on here but don’t know how

    pic of the bike

In gear or in neutral ? On the road or stationary ? Any particular gear ?
Spun the back wheel and listened ?

A pin hole in the bottom of the exhaust collector?

Sounds like a metallic whirring sound, maybe something like you said with the cams.

does anyone know if it could be valve tap?

what rpm is the idle in the video?

Valve tap starts loud and gets louder with more revs.

I doesn’t matter if it’s in gear or not, it’s soley rpm related , stationary or moving the sound is the same, it’s not clutch because it doesn’t change clutch in our out.

min the video the bike is at about 4500 rpm (choke on) trying to exasperate the noise . But it’s like a scream at 8000 rpm

I’ll get another video today, in the phone microphone picks it up,

if it is engine issue which I fear it might be I will pull the listing , and repair it, it’s just no one can work out what it is

If it walks like a duck etc. Maybe someone had the head surfaced and thereby causing the cam drive gears to be too tight.

From experience RC30's set up too tight whine right from idle. Race ones with no scissor gears rattle like f... if they're too loose.

What is possible is a bad bearing in the gear train. If load is pushing a gear into hard engagement with it's neighbour, that sort of noise would happen.
I've not tried to take a Honda cam gear train apart. Don't want to either. Swap in a better one and try it.

Trick that a very inventive Zealander once taught me, get a long cardboard tube and put it to your ear and use it like a stethoscope to pinpoint the source of a noise

Yep. Same can be done with a long handled screw driver. Listen on the handle end of course. :D

I'm guessing that someone got that backwards at some point and there's probably a video on youtube of it happening, where they topple...but I'm not game to actually search, just in case

And yes I've seen someone pour sand straight down their throttle body throat to remove carbon buildup in their engine, then they posted the video to youtube to seek answers as to why it didn't work

Thanks for all your replies guys

really appreciate it, got tied up today on the track bike so didn’t get a chance to grab a video of the bike in question

    I’m
Also of the opinion that it’s a timing gear bearing

so I’m split with my decision as to what to do moving forward

first option is get another head, and send it to the engine guru and get it ported etc and tidy it up

then replace the current one knowing the new one is mint, do my clearances etc, this is to rule out a burnt valve, buggered shim, cam shell etc. whilst the head swap is going on check the mesh gear bearing for noise or play etc.

or the other option is drop the motor out, and swap it with a motor I have that’s not noisey out of my track bike, then take this one that has this issue and give it a head to to birthday and slip it in the race bike

finally, I’m torn about putting the bike for sale, I know it’s 30 year old and sold as is, but I’d hate to sell it and someone have a future issue and come back and say I sold them a lemon as I do give a **** about what others think!

    will post video soon

    Found the matching uniform
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/284074167793

I know I am not helping,

my 2c, pull the engine from the track bike which is a healthy 40hp version, drop it in the white bike, sell for mega bucks., retire on the Gold Coast with a Porsche and canal front home

Pop the head off the white bike motor, port and polish the head, check / replace cam gear , reinstall new head gasket then put it in the race bike and get out on the track

lots of work, but achieves the goal of a sellable bike and you get the 45hp motor in the track bike

option 2, send it to Murdo to turbocharge
