    Heya guys

So with the Island classic coming up in jan, I decided i didnt want to go all the way down with only the one bike, so I have decided to build myself a 2nd CBR250 RR P6 race bike

A fellow racer had partially race prepped bike that he was no longer going to build,Fitting a straight through muffler and Gary from Team Tiger had already done some work to it, welding on engine casing protectors and a chain guard shark fin.

Just trying to reduce file size of some pics and will upload :)

BCBRRHSF_2.jpg So Today, I picked up a set of Race glass from Gary at Team Tiger, Fit is perfect, nose cone,1 piece main fairing and a tail, lightweight fibreglass ready for paint, also fitted the quick acting throttle that the previous owner had purchased from Simidau from Team tiger, the Exhaust also came from Simidau- a great pipe that i run on my current racebike.

It is the factory seat, but so far i do not like it, my other race bike used to run replica cbr 600 glass, and i really loved the custom tail on it, but it is not P6 historic legal, so both bikes are being converted to the factory style, I intend on mucking around with some fibreglass and trying to modify the team tiger tail to have an integrated seat, I am fairly tall and like to sit a fair way back

As i build it, will run through what I spend/use where i can, to help people get an idea of how cheap a CBR can be made race ready :)

    Fairings- 3 parts nose,1 peice main fairing and a tail - $300
Windscreen to suit the fairings- $15
    Straight through pipe- $70
quick acting throttle (fits standard cable) $25

the fairings are uncoated plain fiberglass
I also spent about 15 bucks at my local bolt shop, got myself a stock of 5mm set screws,Nylock nuts and spring clip nuts

Next on the agenda- Drill and lockwire
    Front brake bolts
    sump,oil filler,radiator.

Fit some front fork cap adjusters.

Strip down the Carbies, also will replace the bolts on the carby bowls with some nice cap screws

also need to acid flush the radiators on both of the CBR's to get them working nicely

Got most of the bolts drilled to lockwire, battery drill wouldnt hold a 1.5mm bit so i had to go and get a little chuck for them..

Opened up the carby bowls, all pretty clean, more done to this bike than i realised :), already has bigger jets in it, 112.5s and 115s, same as my white race bike.

Removed the radiator and flushed it out, then Acid washed it, wow did some crap come out of that!!
also removed the centre of the thermostat to increase water flow.

Replaced the Ignition barrel with a pull/push switch, nothing worse than driving to the track and wondering, were is the bike key?

Hey Mick, welcome to the forum. You sound very much like a man on a mission with this new acquisition. Progress is being made at a rapid rate of knots. Quick question re: the thermostat, is that standard procedure on racing bikes??
This would prolong the time to get the engine to optimum temp, as I say I don't much about racing bikes. My last Honda was a cbr1100 and it ran hot which I found out was standard, that's how they are meant to run.
Well Mick, good luck with bike, we'll be watching your progress.:thumb_ups:

Gday Phil, Thanks, it is coming along nicely. My work roster means i get 13 days off at a time so got lots of free time this week :)
I don't believe it is done on most modern bikes, Especially fuel injected ones. With the thermostat partially removed it does take a little while to get them warmed up, but that generally works well, Before a race i will usually start the bike as i am putting gloves/helmet on, then ride up to the pit exit, we often wait about 1 min to get out on track, warm up lap, then spend around another 30 seconds on the grid, By this time the temp will be up and better flow in the cooling system seems to help.
Not sure if it has much effect, but we also run only water in our radiators on the track, and only add green coolant when the bikes are being stored.

Thanks Mick, learn something new everyday. I am curious, why use water only during racing? Is this a stipulation from the racing fraternity or what? Keep up the good work.:thumb_ups:

Yeah, the water only is in the rules for all motorcycle road racing, Coolant is very slippery if it spills on a track :-(

    Heya guys,

Thought i would give a bit of an update,
Not a huge amount of progress, been busy with household stuff.
Been playing around with the mounts for the tail, just trying to neaten them up.

Also been rather busy with Sim from team Tiger, sorting crates for the bikes to get them down to Phillip island :)

Now trying to decide on a colour scheme for the bikes, something simple and easy, yet stand out!! any one got idea's / suggestions?

I know when I finally get around to buying my race glass and painting it, I will looking at GP bikes from the late 80's early 90's for inspiration for colour schemes .

Heya all, sorry for the lack of updates, had to go to work for a couple of weeks :-(

Not much done, too busy with Christmas, but had to take some photo's for my historic Log book application, if any one does one of these, make sure the pics are really bright and detailed, or they will want them done again :-(
also make sure you have your number boards on the bike as this is a requirement.

Tires are ordered for the beast,a set of the super sticky Pirelli supercorsa SC1/SC2 combo and after christmas I will order some new springs for the front forks, stiffen it up a bit to match my current bike, and some more sprockets to be sourced, some gearing experiments for the upcoming Island classic and Aussie historic champs at lakeside next year.
