Not a worry! This project ain't going anytime soon haha so no rush.

My barrel is flogged out but seems to be working correctly. Just notchy trying to get the steering lock activated. Will look into getting it serviced for sure.

Today I replaced that pesky connector and everything ignition-wise works as it should. I might try and start the bloody thing today if I get time. I use and old bottle with a hole in the cap as a mini fuel tank. Has worked for me in the past. Prob not good long term and would increase chances of grit and **** getting in but ah well. Not keen on tanking the tank off and on. Then off again. Then on again lol.

The offer is there if you need my spare ignition switch , if you change your mind i'll send it to you , as mentioned the key is there also.

Your old connector was very dry / crispy wasn't it. Strange as the connector's are under the tank out of the sun etc , but i suppose heat does rise.

Thankfully my connector's where just very dirty. I think my bike was looked after at one stage in it's life though , thankfully !.

Your temporary fuel container sound's fine to me , you still can fit a fuel filter in-line anyway , would be a good idea to fit one though just in case you do pick up dirty fuel.

Regarding removing the fuel tank , it is a huge pain as all of the fuel refuses to come out no matter what you do. But there is a trick which is a lot easier and less mess / fuel spill's.
*Remove the fuel tank clip / washer and fuel gauge sender connection from the main loom
*Undo and remove the 2 x chrome flange bolt's that hold's the fuel tap onto the bracket
    * Crimp the fuel line just above the carby fuel spigot
    * Remove the fuel line off the carby
    * Remove everything as a unit.
*Just be aware of the dangling fuel tap , as it will show no mercy if it hit's the fuel tank

Opps , i forgot to add a picture of my ignition assy. At'least you can see where: P / lock / off / on is situated. I wasn't sure if your ignition decal is still fitted or not. They are available if your after one.

Servicing the Ignition switch is easy... 3 screws underneath and it comes apart... I did it for mine as I needed to change the configuration of the wiring.

Grease up the locking pic etc and some dielectric grease inside and Bobs your Aunty

I probably have a spare ignition switch as well.. just use the bottom of it for the cable and connector.....

Ignition switch cleaned up and lubed, all good now! Cheers for the tips.

Haven't had much time at all for the bike lately. Sorting out paint stripping the tank and preparing for paint. The tank was sitting high due to the mounts being pushed down. A swift wallop with a mallet and she's all good!

As I get closer to starting the bike since top end rebuild, are there any rules/procedures that need to be followed? I mainly ask this about the oil pump as the bike had been drained completely. Never done a build like this, so I don't know the unspoken laws so to speak haha

On another note, I accidentally bought an srx600 haha woops!

Nice one. That will build up the muscles in the right leg kicking it over.
Which model? I have a spare front guard here for it if you are interested.

Take the spark plug out and either turn on starter or put in high gear and push around to turn the engine over for approx 30 sec to prime the oil pump. Put the plug back in and start. Keep at low revs for the first few seconds.

You can also back fill to the oil pump from the oil filter housing... I filled up my oil pump with some vaseline (probably all melted by now) and then back filled the oil feed to the head. Bear in mind, I have an external oil feed to the head as I am using the 350TT barrel and head. The SRX250 has that oil feed internally.
I would also take the rocker cover off and bump the starter until you see oil coming up to the head. With the plug out of course.
Make sure you have plenty of assembly lube on the camshaft lobes so that they dont run dry at all.
Once you know you have oil running up to the head, re-install the rocker cover and check the oil level... plenty of galleries to fill up.

This should tell you which model SRX6 you have if it loads... if not I will add it to resources... I have Workshop manual and Owners manual which I will put in the Resources section.

Have been mucking around with the tank for a while now, trying to get it right for paint. Everything else has slowed down, waiting on parts from eBay.

In other news took ownership of the srx600 on Monday, what a beauty. I know it's not 250cc but if anyone here knows a bit about them I'd love a chat, have a few things I wanna ask haha

Nice looking bike you have there... modified exhaust as they had a big bulky muffler box underneath eh engine that the header pipes went into then a smaller exhaust muffler out the back... should sound nice.
Parts of my build are SRX600, headlight and brackets, triple clamp and bars, instrument cluster (I did change the tacko over to an SRX3WP for the right redline etc).
The only downside is that they are Kickstart only... although there is a decompression lever attached to the kickstart to save your right leg... now all you need to do is get it registered and ride it :)

I had the SRX400 (and I still have no idea why I sold it?). I have the SRX600 manuals. I'm not sure if the 400 engine was a different unit to the 600, but happy to chat. PM me if you want to ask anything or want my mobile number or email etc. As Andy said, kick start on the 600, but my 400 had electric, so two thumbs up there.

I must admit to having a hankering for either an SRX400 or SRX600... Kind of the big brother to the 250.
The seperate Oil tank on the 400 is a nice feature too... did I say I have an SRX600 front guard in good condition... :)

Getting it regod will be interesting. Called the inspection place here to see what they require. It's just ID plates but they mentioned if they see anything sus they will pull me up on it.

That in mind, I will put the og muffler back on, og mirrors too. Worried about the brake lines being braided steel (brakes have been rebuilt and are literally rock hard) but they said as long as it's adr approved they'll be fine. Haven't checked, hope they are ha

Might have to start collecting parts! Already lined up some gears as apparently they like to chew 5th

Was out in then shed doing other stuff and thought, why not try and start the srx. Chucked some fuel in and it fired up pretty much straight away.

Headers where off gassing and it was pretty smokey in the shed haha

Idle seems to be hanging a bit. Will get it further along and together before I start sorting that one out.

Trying to upload footage now but file size too large, might do a YouTube link

Quick question - how do the header brackets sit on the srx?

Manual states 12nm on the Allen bolts but mine just kept on going in and the brackets appear to be bent? Got 3/4 to spec but just doesn't look right.
