Hi all, Mitch from sunny Nelson in NZ, top of the south island. Home to many great riding areas. I am fairly new to road riding but not to motorcycles. Spent childhood and teenage years terrorising neighbors on motocross/offroad bikes prior. I am a self confessed OCD pedantic individual. I like to have things in order and as they should be. Probably a bit like James May from TopGear/Drivetribe. I like his "unpimp my ride" videos . If you haven't seen them, worth a watch on Youtube. Recently started dabbling in motorcycle restoration with my father which has led me to acquire a 1990 CBR250RR MC22 L. 30,000kms and in tidy condition. Few small areas of damage on the fairings, two small cracks that I will attempt to get welded and the wheels need a touch up. My plan for this bike is to restore it back to showroom condition or as close as I possibly can with my skills and budget. I'm lucky I have a good starting point as bike runs well and is in very tidy condition so its mainly cosmetic. I also have in the garage two other bikes: A 1987 Honda NSR250 MC16 2 stroke (red and white model) & a 1978 Kawasaki Z1R D1 (small tank). The NSR is under restoration and in a similar state to my CBR. Running and just cosmetic details to improve on. The hardest thing about this bike is finding parts. Please give me any suggestions if you know where I could find quality parts. I have found a lot of what I am after on Yahoo auctions in Japan but we don't have anyone local that can purchase and ship them to NZ. The Z1R is 95% complete (need the correct NGK spark plug leads and exhaust collector) and was a complete strip down to bare frame and rebuild with quite a few replacement parts. The Z1 was the first restoration project I was a part of and the feeling you get when you see a piece of history sitting there like it has just come out of the shop is very satisfying. You could say I now have the bug. Thanks for having me and all being helpful people. Few pictures below for your viewing pleasure
Welcome, you can use Jauce or Zenmarket to buy & ship those items on Japanese auction sites to you. Great collection of bikes.
Thanks for that information. I am a little hesitant about purchasing from abroad. Some of the parts I am after will be quite expensive and taking the step to transfer money to someone to buy from an overseas website is a little daunting. I haven’t heard any bad stories as such but I just assume the worst. Does one need to be weary about purchasing from sites like Yahoo? Perhaps anything to look out for that would make you think twice about purchasing?
You cannot purchase from Yahoo Japan unless you reside in Japan. If you use Jauce or Zenmarket then you can pay by PayPal and you have their standard buyer protection. Jauce and Zenmarket owe their existence to overseas buyers they are not about to defraud their customers.
Yes I agree with that. I could have worded my question better. I was more referring to the listings themselves on Yahoo as opposed to the company in which you get to undertake the sale and shipping. Just in case anyone had come across something and would be kind enough to warn me. On second thoughts, those companies deal with Yahoo so much, I'm sure they would be able to pick if something was off and advise the client.
