Buddy evacuated to my place to avoid Ida and brought his (new to him) Monster 1100 and DRZ with him. Decided it was time I do a shakedown on the 919 after installing sideracks/bags earlier this month. 330+ miles later we are both sore as hell. Monster handles great, but body position is way too aggressive for my taste. Natural body position had me looking over the front fairing at the front tire. I think it would be a great track toy, but not something I would want to do 300+ mile days on. Also the rear suspension was beyond brutal.

I got a new Ducati in 2020 and it came from the factory with the rear preload really cranked up. Your buddy should watch some Dave Moss videos and set up his suspension, it makes a world of difference.

We have a common friend that does suspension tuning that checked it out back in May. I'm certain they discussed options but the guy with the Monster now has to deal with hurricane damage to his house so it'll be a while before he can sort it out properly. Still plenty rideable, but it really kicks you in the ass on rough roads.

Finally got around to replacing the leaking cracked 26 year old manifold boots on my XT 350 Yam. ( Yes,350, but only a puny 250 in power terms). Fiddly removing the 4 bolts into engine, but thankfully Yamaha saw fit to use Allen headed bolts. 3 came out easily after cracking, of course the 4th was a pig, with 1/8 turns the full length of the bolt to remove it with a shortened Allen key. Job finished in time for dinner, bike has not not yet been started. Now for new chain and sprockets. 0D349AB7-7123-4F53-AF36-BD60B7D13EDA.jpeg 45F05E79-69FA-4E5A-AC96-6D02ACA4457E.jpeg 3917A479-7F21-4094-BC5A-2996FD9DCE21.jpeg

Finished off my decals on the track bike, yes I’m aware it’s oooks to pretty to be a race bike, but it’s only gonna be pretty once.

Yes stumbled on DMT website 18 months ago and whoa what a difference it makes to the bike. The Busa handles like a dream round the back roads of NZ. Would recommend everyone to join the website, plenty to learn regarding suspension setup, tyre reading for road & track. only $50 US / year. You wont regret it. Safe riding everyone.

    Hi Guys,
Been working on the big blade of recent to try and get it all back together after engine rebuild and before the club plate rules change down here in Vic. Unfortunately I stuffed up. I have damaged the inner clutch basket with my makeshift holding tool.
Ended up cracking the wall in one place. I tapped it back into shape, welded it up and re-machined the outer grooves but it is not ideal and not the best of finishes. Does anyone know where I might be able to get an inner clutch basket for a 1996 cbr900rr.
They are of course listed as NLA.
Also what tools have others successfully used to hold the inner basket. The nut has to be done up to 94 ftlb.

    Help!

Laced the front wheel (again) on the SL125 but with lovely SS spokes... made such a difference. trued it all up and then fitted up the new front tyre... it has been a long time since I did a tube tyre... thankfully it all went well.
Then continued to sort out the garage, moved stuff around, setup my Laptop and monitor out there to make it easier to look stuff up and then went for a 15 minute ride while the weather was nice... if a bit windy. while I like my Bell Bullit helmet it is a bit noisy... I will have to look into that..

My Shoei lid was a display item at MCA (never buying display items again) and it's turned into a windy, air leaky POS. And for the price I paid, it was available through work via a supplier as a clearance item for less than half what I paid.

@kiffsta might have been wrecking one. But to hold the inner clutch boss, use the rear brake. Put it in a tall gear. Or just rattle gun it like most others do...

this body and chassis must have belonged to the pope, it is more holy than thou :help:

But my mission of getting a 1600 twin port and IRS gearbox has been successful , I sold a few parts on the weekend, almost got my money back on the donor car , so almost a free engine :thumb_ups:

Took the zxr250 Mantis to the VJMC meeting tonight, it created some interest , quite a few of the lads couldn’t believe it was ….

    A - made in the 80’s
    B - it has a 19000 redline
