Has anybody got any advice as to how to clean an oil sight-glass? On my SRX250 I cannot see a thing through it and the surface itself is not smooth as if maybe it has been left uncovered during some kind of blasting?

Replacement might be the best option. Get the part number and have a look around as it would have been used on a few models.

    Hi George
I just had a look at my sight glass , and via using the old finger nail trick for smoothness , mine isn't smooth at all compared to the window glass in the shed , even though i had a new sight glass fitted on the engine rebuild.
Wonder if it's just dirty inside , but you'd have to open it up to check.
As the Good Doctor has commented on , replacement might be the best option. This sight glass is fitted to a lot of Yamaha bike's even in 2021 model's.
The sight glass is available , give our local Yamaha man Sam a call.
Part number should be 3Y1-15361-00 Gauge , Level.

If it has a small slotted screw in the centre this is a wiper to clean the inside. Maybe turning this 360 degrees,(if it’s there),is all that’s required

I'm afraid not on the SRX 250. I'm afraid it's a pull down job to either clean or replace.
