Starting to put together another 2fitty, now the paintings done. Just needs a lot of polishing and toothbrush work. Waiting on some carb seals and I can put the Zeal back together next. 272A9598-0373-4BAC-B457-5C1789E20144.jpeg

So... I went over to start the paperwork war for the Tiger Sport 660 today :)

It looks good in Pictures but it looks much better up close and personal.

I also had a look at the Triumph Tiger 1200 GT Explorer and man is it a monster of a bike.
Shaft drive 1200 triple and I would need a step ladder to get onto it... and win Lotto to buy it :)

Mmm, tricky…… I can kinda understand ( when I POR15ed the inside of this tank I set it up in the bathroom with a hairdrier to dry it during the cleaning process, which was ok…….. BUT……… tried the same once the liner had been added and drained and the smell was so bad ( and possibly toxic) that I put it back in the shed. E52D33B3-5C7B-4A0F-8F18-1C385E5A8469.jpeg

Trying to decide if I'm dealing with a twit, or a scammer. Someone posted on a 250rr buy/sell/trade group "WTT for R1 engine" or something very similar. Poster is in the u.s. so would save me a freaking bundle on shipping (I totally intend to finish rebuilding one of the motors I have, but dying to ride at this point...) But then I noticed it's the wrong engine. It's stamped honda but the coolant pipes are damn near as high as the top of the had. Not an MC22 motor. Tell the seller "nevermind, thats not what I'm after". He PMs me "This guy has one." PMer middle-manned my number to who I'll call the twit. the twit says he has one! Woohoo! Same freaking motor this ordeal started out with. Tell him thats not it, it's like a 600/1000 motor (since 250s/400s are greymarket here and rare as hens teeth) He sends me a picture of a cr250 motor. WTF? kickstart 2 stroke? not even close buddy. He asks for pics of the motor I'm after. Today he says he found one and is asking if I can pick it up or if it should be delivered. Half tempted to meet the guy to see what he has/what the story is, but as the same time I think I should stay far far away.

    Progress on the Zeal.
Yesterday I discovered the reserve is blocked on the fuel tap. This morning I discovered you can have an airlock between the fuel pump and the carbs, after putting more fuel in the tank. Bit embarrassing yesterday as I had to push the last 20 metres to my driveway.
Overall pretty happy as it looks like the Zeal is going to make an appearance at a VJMC gathering at Wirrina in another week and a half, just need the sun to come out for another test run, this time with fuel in the tank!
If you hadn’t seen this bike before I originally posted up about six weeks ago after scrapping all the original plastics off the tank after the PO had a house fire with the tank in the house, but the bike outside. I suspect he was doing a repaint in winter inside, which didn’t end well.
Bike has had brakes, all fluids, a respray, carb rebuild, battery and tyres and some miscellaneous bits tided as well, but it is now back on the road

Not a bike thing but a lesson in .... "do your own **** when u can"

I had a more notable local auto sparky (who specialises in 4WD fitouts etc) install a dual battery system , driving lights , rear 12v sockets , UHF etc, to the new bus

Heres the brilliant positioning of the aerial lead :headbang:
Now of course the lead is an integral part of the aerial so to redo it , you have to disconnect it from the radio end .... which these days are buried behind the dash somewhere as the hand piece has all the "controls" on it ..... and behind the glovebox is usually the place .... upon investigation I found said black box cable tied to some bracket .... now that takes talent

It took hours to do the re routing but about 10 seconds to run the cable under the guard

He had also taken the shortest route thru the engine bay so the lead was cable tied to brake lines , injector pipes and all that kinda thing :thumb_ups:

Man, if that guy specializes in 4WD fitouts, I'd hate to see what kind of job someone who doesn't give a sh*t does? I bet if you did that to his car he'd be going inside to get the rifle.

I have discovered that a piece of 2 inch galv water pipe has an OD which is about .5-1mm larger in diameter than the intake throat OD of the Yamaha Zeal carburettors.
What this means that the bastard rubbers on the air filter can be heated with a heat gun and clamped up, onto the galv pipe and “reshaped”, as they cool, to slip back onto the carb bodies, using a bit of WD40 and with a tap from above, when lined up. Also pays to clean up the outer surface on the carbs too. I used a bit of steel wool and just wiped the outside to remove any crud.
This task was being a bit of a pain until this “light bulb” moment, and I recommend it to any zeal owner who needs to work on the carbs with the 24 year old original rubber to work with.
Today’s task was to find a leak around diaphragm two and to sync the carbs. Win, win and the bike runs like a dream now!

Not sure if I posted this but.
Yamaha Zeal FZX250 ‘98 airbox rubbers fix.
The rubber connectors between the airbox and the carbs were misshapen from age and the years of expert abuse from previous owners. Rebuilt the carbs with some Litetek seals, sorted a leaking diaphragm which was miss aligned and synced the carbs. Runs so much better it’s a different bike.
The connectors were a pain until I had a lightbulb moment and discovered a 2 inch galv water pipe had an OD which was around 0.5 to 1.0mm larger than the OD of the carb intake throats.
Heat up each connector with a heat gun and with a squirt of WD-40 and slip them onto the pipe, clamp them down and let them cool.
I wiped each carb exterior lip with a bit of steel wool and put a little WD-40 on the connecting rubbers.
Put those connectors back into the airbox, lined them up, and with their now square facings, and circular shape, tapped them down into position. They went on perfectly and as good as they left the factory some twenty four years earlier.
Doesn’t happen often, but win, win.
