What sizes are the tyres? Do you have a link for them?

Thanks Mick. They are a bit too wide for me though.

So I started on the paint job today, decided to go with white, nice and simple, easy to touch up and goes well with adding sticker work :)
Got all the fairings for both bikes in primer, and bogged up any imperfections, tomorrow goes some more primer and the paint.
All this work with paint and fiberglass makes me remember why i bought a supermotard with its plastics lol

Hi Mick, welcome to the forum mate.

I'm interested in the acid washing of the radiator. How do you do this if you don't mind me asking?

    Cheers
    Jim

    Gday Jim,

To acid was the radiators, get some Hydrochloric acid, it is commonly used for cleaning brickwork, I got mine from bunnings but i have heard it is cheaper from pool shops, get a small bottle about 500mls as you will not need much. The acid I bought was 320G/L

remove the radiator from the bike, and all the rubber hoses off the radiator, then give it a good flush with water, i just jam the hose into each hole and wash for 30 sec or so. After you flush the radiator, seal up the inlet and outlet holes, leaving just the filler open.

work out roughly the volume of your radiator, I just filled mine with water, then emptied it into a bucket.

Before handling any chemicals, please, read the safety instructions on it!!! make sure the dog is away, make sure the kids are locked in their cages,WEAR THE SAFETY GOGGLES!!!, this stuff is a real chemical, it will burn you, gloves!!, if you get it on you it may not hurt at all, but in a while it will burn you!!
it will also destroy your lovely driveway, this stuff eats concrete!!

Now, this is where i was a little rough-I used "about a capfull" of acid to "bout half a bucket" of water....

fill the bucket with just a little more water than what goes into your radiator and add acid,

IMPORTANT-Always add Acid to Water, never the other way around.

I find the best way, is to put the radiator into a big plastic tub, so i don't spill any on the ground, then fill the radiator with the acid/water mix. you should see lots of bubbling, mine looked like i had filled it with soda water with all the bubbles.
how long you leave it is a bit of a guess, i left mine for about 5 mins, saw loads of brown goopy crud coming out, then tip it into a bucket, and flush well with water.

Much obliged Mick. Sounds like a process I can handle! I'll make sure I don't wear my normal thongs and boardies when working on the bike.

I hear you about the mixing process. Once I worked in a job where I had to mix 5% and 25% HCl from 60%. I added the water to the acid once and all I can say is I was glad I was outside and wearing safety gear.

    Cheers Mate
    Jim

So the Fairings are white :)
So far look ok, not as good as i had hoped, should have got some spray putty as well, as primer, raw fibreglass seems to have some tiny pinprick like holes that dont really show until you start painting, but all in all im happy!

now to wait for the paint to dry, finish off all the little jobs i havent yet done and get the bikes into their crates as i have to go away for work then only 3 days after i get back, drive to Phillip Island from the gold coast

Back from work last night, got some extra spares :) fitted a new radiator to my other CBR as i was still having issues :-(, just gotta fit the tyres on the new bike, finish off a few little bits and pieces then get it in the crate as i ran out of time before work :)

Thanks for the offer Grey, I think we are gonna head out to Goondiwindi then head south, got 2 drivers so we should get a good run :)

Will try to get some pics up of both bikes all race ready tomorrow :)

also fitted a lithium battery to the main race bike, wow, i thought i had been given an empty box till i opened it!!

So race 1 yesterday was a disaster, made a mistake on turn 4 lap 1 narrowly missed a disastrous collision and ended up in last place, fought my way back to 27th. Today has been great, getting better starts and in the 2nd race today I finished above my qualifying position and smashed my PB got under the 2 min mark with a 1min59.2 very happy!!

Always good to have a spare. That is why I take both the TDR and TZR to race meetings.
