Project MC28

Hi Noah. It's still in the paint shop. I dropped it in about 3 weeks ago and the guy said 1 week so I'm a bit annoyed. I'm back at work now. The bike will definitely be ready from paint when I get home on the 30th which is something for me to look forward to. Everything else is done so it's just a matter of bolting on the fairings. At the moment it's got 170 main jets and standard 38 slow jets running with the oil injection. The airscrews are set to 1.5 turns out. I think it's running a fraction lean at low and mid RPM. It was running slightly better with the choke on. Hopefully I can sort it out via the airscews, if not I may have to go up one size in the slow jet. It's got the standard road needle taper set at standard height. I haven't had a chance to do a plug chop yet but I think the 170s will be close for WOT. Not sure I am going to Dyno it but if I do I'll let you know.

 

Sounds like Brisfox has you sorted but I was going to suggest that you just run factory settings. From what I can gather your engine is stock, your exhaust is stock and your airbox is stock right? If you start at the factory settings (they have them on NSR world) I think you will find it will be very close to right. The only thing that might mess with that is if you are running pre-mix? If so you will be running lean on factory settings.

 

I think you'll find that the stock carbie settings for the MC18 are different to that of the MC21. The MC18 MKI runs a TA20 carbies with 130/132 main jets standard. The MC18 MK2 runs a TA21 carbie with 128 main jets. Neither have slow jets and they both run different power jets to the TA22 MC21 carbie. Air screw settings and needles on both MC18 models are different to the MC21 as well. That's why I was suggesting that Duggs check the NSR World site for his model of MC18. It would be a good starting point for a stock bike.

Duggs I rang around the dynotune places in Brisbane several months back. Some won't do a two stroke. There are two from memory that do and both had exhaust gas analysers. There is one in Bowen Hills next door to Northstar Yamaha (149 Abbotsford Road). The guy that runs the bike shop is a two stroke nut (he has a nice RG500) and he uses the dynotune next door. I think the others I rang were Power House Dynotune (Nerang), Pro Cycle Dyno (Slacks Creek) and Speedys Motorcycles (Sumner Park). I can't remember which ones do 2 strokes but it isn't cheap ($600 or so).

 

Finally got the bike on the dyno. It was running way rich with 170s. Ended up with 155 mains running a tad rich and just cracked 60hp.

 

Got the brakes sorted and fairings on.
