Hi guys this is just a hello and maybe a bit of advice needed too. I only just got my license on Monday and I am searching for my first bike. I have been and looked (not tested) at ninja 250/300 cbr250 and to be honest they don't make me smile with their sharp plastic toy looks and boring scooter sound so I want the old 4cyl 250s, even though every one says get new as they are reliable for my first time riding- but im ignoring the good advice because I'm a idiot.... because after all I got my license to get something that makes me smile not something that doesn't make me excited to jump on, right? So I have my heart set on a cbr250rr mc22 because they look cool ( without tyga kit) and the engine whine is awesome. But they are hard to get good examples. So what's people's opinion on this Kawasaki ZXR250 Ninja, http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/bentley/motorcycles/kawasaki-zxr250-ninja/1062933762 Price: $ 3,500.00 Seems decent ( apart from the space ship pipes) are they just as good as the cbr? ... I do like the engine whine though....
Dont knock the spaceship pipes First off welcome to the community, the CBR, ZXR, GXR and FZR are all very exciting bikes to own , each has their intracicies, but all are awesome to ride, looking at the ZXR you posted, I would assume this is the Thailand version with 40 horses, I havnt seen one in that livery that was made in japan with 45 HP. The CBR and FZR's were the most popular from a sales perspective, however the ZXR250 wasnt too far behind them, things to note with the ZXR's that the cam chain and cam chain tensioner should be checked regulalry. The CBR is slightly different as it has gear driven cams. My advice to you is go and have a look at them, sit of them and see which ones feels right, then look at a test ride. I recently put my ZXR250 and @Tim_ s bike next to each other and the ZXR looks much larger. Good luck, I hope you find one soon, keep an eye on Ebay, Gumtree, Bikesales.com.au and tradingpost.com.au , they are often listed there Cheers Chris Very Tidy 40HP MC22 http://www.bikesales.com.au/private...s])))&(Service=[Bikesales])&pso=0&pss=Premium Gumtree http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/belmont/motorcycles/honda-cbr250rr/1063152069
Thanks, im really excited to get into the community! Hope to get to know some perth riders to go out with and get some local knowledge. Im a lone ranger in the bike world! Is the 5hp difference in the cbr zxr noticeable enough to actively go out and search for an early jap model than the later 40hp? The bike sales doesn't work but if it's the red one I went to buy it, absolutely spotless but when I went to put a deposit down he decided to take it off the market. The yellow one isn't in perth yet. Iv messaged about this one: Great first bike fun to ride CBR250RR MC22, http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/darc...rst-bike-fun-to-ride-cbr250rr-mc22/1062260941 Price: $ 3,800.00 Hes the only one available that's had the carbs cleaned and new chain sprocket. Every other owner has done nothing maintenance wise.... Would iy put you off if the owner has done nothing to it over the year they have had it? I plan to get one and keep it for more than just my 12 month re license
the early Jap ones hold their value more due to performance pedigree, the one you have messaged looks tidy too, maybe call the guy with the red one again and see if he has calmed down.. maybe he will sell it now
Hey CDaly, I just bought my first 250, I was looking for a MC19, ended up with an MC17 for $1,500. not very tidy though. I have just ordered a new set of fairings from motofairing.com and will let you know how good they are. Landed they cost $500. So if you find a bike with messed up fairings, but the rest is good you can easily take this option. I looked at a few bikes all under the $2,000 mark. my picks for the moment are http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/greenfields/motorcycles/for-sale-1989-honda-cbr250r/1062458997 you would have to low ball this one http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/jane-brook/motorcycles/cbr250rr-mc22-1991/1058749374 AND THIS ONE http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/butler/motorcycles/honda-cbr-250-rr/1063279477 That one in Darch is pretty high on the km's!
Hey Greggie. Yea I was looking at a bike that had beem set up for track work woth a bit of work done to the engine. Was going to get it on the fact it was solid and put new fairings on it but it sold. :-( The darch bike has done 60k but with these grey imports whos to say wjat km they have all done. Im going of condition and if the owner has done any mech maintenance. Higher km but recently reburbed carbies etc is more appealing to me than a 40k with no work done. And the majority don't have a clue about the bikes. Being an engineer I'm a fan on preventative maintenance so when they say I havnt had any problem in 3 years so iv done nothing to it is bad to my ears when the bike is so old anyway..... I dont know maybe I have it all wrong as I am new to bikes :-/
im in WA and just sold both of my MC22's this week!! better be quick mate, people are really hunting these little treasures down
yeahh hahah those were my bikes.... the unregistered race bike had the best mc14e engine i have ever seen...the white tyga 1994 engine needed new valve stem seals and guides... and rings, but still a good example.
young fella who bought the track bike wants to keep the stock standard look, and will be his first bike, look forward to helping him get it on the road in future (i told him to just buy a T10 tyga kit to save headaches tracking down stock bits!)
Currently plan to view this weekend: 1 http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/darc...rst-bike-fun-to-ride-cbr250rr-mc22/1062260941 Price: $ 3,800.00 2)black fireblade fairings QUOTE: 1993 20,000 genuine km was unregistered for 7 years when I bought it and I have a revs check on it so can prove if you'd like, nah no damage never been dropped crashed etc, in very good condition best I've seen, just been serviced with new oil plugs battery, have all receipts, oil stays perfectly clear in the engine, chain is all good aswell, yeah I cleaned the carbies out when I first got the bike as the Jetts were blocked from not being ridden and the battery was stuffed obviously, the floats were also adjusted when it was serviced, and nah fork seals don't leak the bike doesn't leak anywhere uses no oil and no water it's in really good condition
That sounds like my story. First bike want the stock look. I hate him for beating me to it by about an hour haha
first one has very high k's and appears to have plastic fairings. second one sounds like a complete mullet/rat tail WA cashed up bogan owner. - would go over that bike with a fine comb.
