1996 Suzuki Across GSX250F

Got my fairings back from being painted (2pac), so shiny!


Tried to fit them last night but the gaps are shocking around the boot. The other fairings don't really have any adjustment (bolted to the chassis).

I replaced the headlight bracket (left rear view mirror bracket was bent) and also replaced the little brackets that hold the middle of the top fairings.

The only thing that is strange is that you need to force the boot down to line up the holes inside (that bolt onto the chassis). Tonight I'll take off the battery box so there's move room for lines/wires to go and see if I can line it up without using too much force.

These are the holes that don't line up unless you push the boot down with a heap of force, battery might be slightly too tall

So, here are the results, the holes inside the boot and the holes in the middle of the top fairings that don't line up or have too much gap.

The right side is not too bad.

The left side however, the top fairing is on top of the boot fairing {red} (image with the red/blue lines), if I lift the boot so the top fairing sits flush, the boot comes up from the back fairing {blue}.

I think my only hope is to find someone local with an Across and compare the brackets.
Apart from that, looks good! I have some Suzuki decals to go on, but that will be down the track.

 

The only headache so far is getting the boot to fit correctly

 

Brother, few parts need to be re-painted (has a few runs).

 

Okay, update - I can't get this boot to line up for the life of me. Thanks to Jessica and Andrew for taking the time and chatting with me about that frame.

Going to head to two different wreckers to get measurements and going to take along some blu-tac to mould both bracket templates (so height, angle and position will be correct).

While I'm there I will check that my boot/brackets are not warped. I'd assume if it wasn't, I should be able to hinge the base of the boot and the top bolts should line up a-okay.

If I can't get the thing to line up on my bike after moulds and that, I can get a good frame from SA for $100 ex freight which is pretty good.

That's where I'm at anyway - even if I do need to get a frame I scored myself a pretty good bike.

 

Boot is not warped, boot brackets that attach to the boot were replace with good ones (tested while at the wreckers), boot hinged replaced and the brackets that attach to the frame that hold the boot on have been straightened to match mold (Paul at Eastern Motorcycle Wreckers cut some brackets off to take home, so compared with them as well).

No go. Nothing on the boot can physically bolt to the chassis, except for the hinge pin.

I did see a dent on the frame and Andrew pointed out a hump on one of the rails.

Going to go ahead and get the frame from SA. Probably won't touch the bike until my car is back together so I've got some room in the garage .

 

Have finally got the car fixed but the steering rack is gone. Decided to start doing things on the bike instead.

Here's my frame . Going to ring around locally but if all else fails I'll need to get one freighted from Kiffsta.

 

Got a frame and the bike is almost back together, before I tie down the loom, I have some extra connectors - does anyone know about these? The bike runs without them.
