So I'm looking to install a steering damper to complete the front end of my NSR. I was looking for an Ohlins unit but many seem to have short strokes. I vaguely remember 120mm as being the required stroke. I also have a Tyga steering stopped installed although I won't have that installed all the time. Also, anyone have experience with those Chinese ones on eBay?
Not with the steering dampers, but the el cheapo Chinese shocks work ok. The lasting power may not be there, but neither is the price.
Unless you are a serious racer the nsr is pretty steady , I have never needed one on mine and it gets raced very hard . Be careful of those tyga steering stops , if you crash they bite a chunk out of the ally frame stops , been there done that .
Thanks for the advice. The goal is basically to try and prevent any tank slappers since that's how I broke my leg on my MC22. There's also a small amount of poser points involved with it. But I'm a light guy (60kg) so I was expecting the bike to a handful. I'm hoping a good steering damper will negate the need for a steering stopper. It was more like a "good idea at the time" purchase. Now it's just a pain in the arse. I've also got SP forks on the way which should help keep it as steady as possible. But I won't be riding the wheels of it by any means.
I saw a thread recently on a fireblade forum where someone had used on of the eBay dampners. He bought a fitting kit to suit his model and it had to be modified a bit to fit. His evaluation on performance was quite good. Made a noticeable difference and I think the last update was 2 years trouble free
Hey Kiffsta. I had a cheapo dampener come with the bike when I bought it but I've never run it. As Neal said it's rock steady over the bumps and I ride a lot of crappy roads around Northern NSW etc. A few times I've had total pucker moments when I see a big pothole while I'm at a bit of a lean but it just tracks through them. Only time I've ever had any sort of shimmy is on fast change of direction when the front gets a bit light. Way steadier than an RGV for instance.
That said if you want one for bling, NHK also do a nice dampener. They have them on Japan Webike. Lots of other stuff too like sprockets, rev limiter disablers, titanium bits, silhouette panels, Magical racing panels, reverse shift kits, sprockets, Coerce / Woodstock rearsets etc etc. Samurider also has some hi end parts like Beater alloy tanks etc.
Hey, thanks for that Fox. Webike is pretty good (I've checked it out before) and Samurider stock some amazing stuff although a bit pricey, although very nice. Do you know if an MC28 rear wheel and a VFR400/RVF400 wheel can be interchanged? I'm thinking of putting a Pro Arm on my MC21 but MC28 wheels are expensive and not too common. An RVF or VFR wheel is cheaper and more common so I'm hoping they fit?
