hi every one ,
This is my first post here, i have just purchased a fzr250 2kr from a friend of mine for 300$ he last drove it 7 months ago and till than it was resting in its backyard for uptill now,now i want it to make it live again, but he told me that some electrical parts r missing and he dont have any idea what they r and where they were located in the bike,so my question is for all u techno guyz here can u tell me what major electrical parts fzr 2kr has?where r their locations?,and how many they r in one fzr?,for example where cdi ignition and strating coil is located on the bike ? (some one told me that they r 2 starting coils on a fzr 2kr one for each pair of cyclinders is that true?).
below r some pics of my bike showing some area where suspected parts r i think missing.

a-ha! You are missing the battery in the second pic!

From memory - the cdi should be below the rear seat. Probably able to pick one up from a wreckers easily enough.

Don't know the location of other parts as I no longer have a fzr to compare it to..

Good deal though! Will be a nice bike once it is running again. I'd buy it for $300. Where are you located anyway?

Aside from the electricals it could use a good clean. And I think you are missing a front screen. bargain though.

It may be easiest if you have a look at the fzr400 manual, chapter 8 for electricals (see mid way down at this link: viewtopic.php?t=327 ). Has wiring diagrams etc. which will help you out. The fzr400 may not be 100% comparable with the 250 in terms of electricals, but certainly much more accurate than my guesses! (they will be very similar). As there is no english manual for the 250, this is the best we have.

And yes you could stoppie an fzr250 if you want. But it may shorten the life of the rear shock...

Hmm it does not look that bad... see if it works...

Apparently these CDI units are not as fragile as the Honda ones...

If you are in need of one I think I can locate one (got a mate who is wrecking one)

doubt you will find one new (given they have not made the bike for 10+ years now) - probably need to find one from a wreckers. So tbone's mate may be a good place to start.

can anybody verify that the thing shown above in the pic is the geniune CDI IGNITER located under the rear seat in FZR 2kr 250?

wat else should i check beside CDI IGNITER,STARTING COIL, that is envolved in the process of starting ?

How about oil and coolant, making sure that generious coating of crap hasn't got into the carbs by draining them and putting in fresh fuel.
And I do stoppies all the time which my neighbours are well pleased about.

It certainly has the correct numbering etc. on it. However, I can not verify the internals (though I doubt they would be switched).

Are you soure the one in the picture is stuffed?? I would plug it in to a compleate 2KR and see if it works... that way you have eliminated one possible problem... these units are NOT cheep... I'll call my mate tomorow and see how much he wants for it...

Not sure on the going rate for them... but your looking at over $200 for the CDI - that's just going by Southern Cross Sports rather fictitious price list. Alot of stuff is listed on there that the guy doesn't have... or hasn't had for a while now (ie. the windscreens ). That said, given that the only time you'll get a live CDI is out of a completely crashed bike, the price could really be anywhere in the vacinity!

Out of interest, where'd you get those prices for?
Might be handy to pick up a CDI for a 'project'. ;)
