Hi, i just got my FZR about 4 months ago and last weekend i did my first service.
I changed
Oil
Oil filter
spark plugs
cleaned the carby

I read somewhere on this site that you can change the air filter box with K&N filters and in doing so you would need to change the jets too.
does anyone know what the part numbers are or what specs are needed?
and how do you change the jets?

thanks,
Matt

When you say that you cleaned the carbs, did you just spray them down with carb cleaner? Or did you disassemble each carb in turn and clean every orifice and blow air through every passage?

If you did the latter, then I will do my best to explain the process of rejetting. That way I'm sure that you are somewhat familiar with what is in there and where it all goes.

Be forewarned, I do not have any info regarding specs or parts needed.

If you remove the airbox, you will definitely need to re-jet. Personally, I'm not willing to lose the airbox (Carb gnomes live there). You can get a replacement filter from K&N for the one you already have, although it is a spendy option.

usually a slip on can only (i.e. not full system) will not require rejetting.

You can make your own filter much cheaper than you can buy a k&n filter, and work just as well on the fzr250. Koma has written a few recent posts about this - he bought foam from clarke rubber, and all works fine (and only cost ~$20). For your info the k&n on the yzf750r (my only comparison) costs $146.

Thanks for the quick response btw.

when the post i read about changing the air filter to K&N filters, was it pod filters like what is found on cars but smaller or is there a K&N filter box made specifically for the motorcycle?
(Sorry wasn't too sure what they ment by K&N whether it was the filter or a whole new box. )

As far as I know K&N does not make filters to fit specificaly 250s...

With the FZR250 3LN it is easy to convert an old air filter to a reusable.. When Koma comes out of his end of year study Coma (LOL I just could not help my self) He will be making a kit for sale... (I hope)

give Bruce at Yamwreck a quick call and ask if he has a filter for a 2kr fzr 250. He can usually do pretty good deals for genuine parts. Number - 9807 8376 and he lives in Ashwood (just north of Mount Waverley).

You could possibly buy some filter foam (he sells that too) and remove your old filter foam, and simply wrap and glue the new stuff.

yep I'll be getting the basic bits (fuel & oil filter) from old brucey so I'll ask him about the air filter options too. Chances are though I will get a 1/2 hr story on some dude who put an r1 filter in a 2kr and then he put a d&d can on and bla bla bla ...
seriously though, he's good value, i always go there for parts (so far new battery $50, both new sprockets $50, heavy duty o-ring chain $120 - can't beat it)

While you are there ask him how much he wants for one of those fz1's he's working on...
