Just thought i'd finally post a couple of photo's of the new beast assembled, washed and on the road. It still needs a bit of cosmetic loving (ie. some red & grey vinyl on the front to match the rest of the bike), but other than that it's complete.

Absolutely loving the bike so far; power delivery is superb and seems endless compared to the little 250. Handles like it's on rails but i need to do a bit of dialing on with the suspension as a few things were a little off kilt. For the time being it's all been set back to factory and i'll ride it like that till i know how i want to dial it in properly.

Anyway, here's some photo's taken from a few minutes ago after washing her. Will post again when it's been re-vinyld and re/de-decal'd.

I like the tail section. Curious of the mirrors tho. Know what kind they are?

The mirrors are just little aftermarket ones i picked up from my local bike bits supplier called MotaBitz (Elizabeth St, Melbourne). They're pretty good, but as they only mount at one point they tend to vibrate a bit; that said they hold up to about 200-220km/h before they move.

They sell them over at AuStreetfighter.com.au... LINKY LINKY for ~$80AU.. but i paid $50AU which was more reasonable.

As for the selling bit, not a chance! This bike is pretty much my dream bike at the moment; as i loved my previous 3LN FZR250 but disliked the tail. This has the grunt of a 1000 with the looks of my old FZR with an awesome tail to match!

Just finished re-vinyl'ing the front fairing to match the rest of the bike.
Whilst it's not a brilliant job it'll keep me happy most likely till the end of summer when it'll be time for a respray. Now i just gotta get out there and do some riding!

I have to say the 1000 is even rarer around here than the 250. Nice to see an individual bike, instead of the ‘just rolled out of the factory’ look of most of the liter bikes getting around. Love the tail.

that's hot!

And i think most people share your feelings on the 250's tail. I reckon an aftermarket fairing for the tail section would sell like hot cakes.

It's a very tight bike you've got there.

Nice Koma,

what model / year is it. I assume its a 1000 from the posts...
Anyway, how'd ya find the power upgrade, was it too much initially from the 250? Ive been thinking about the FZR600 if I can get a hold of one?

Cheers
Nate

Yep, it's a 1992 FZR 1000 (not much difference from the '91 and '93 models).
I've ridden a few larger bikes, but nothing else of this size that seemed to handle anywhere nearly as well! This bike feels so stable and planted it's a little bit deceptive.

In regards to the power, i'd honestly say the Thou has more usable power than the 250 did simply because when i'm not out and about on the twisties i'm commuting around the city or on the freeway; and this thing has more than enough usable power and torque in the low end that i can put around the city in 2nd/3rd gear with the rev's down around 2800-3500 and it's still got more than enough to get me out of tight spots.

From what i've heard the FZR600 is a different beast again, much more of a previous generation track day weapon. There's a few big FZR's floating around but i didn't really like the twin 'fox eyes' look of the newer ones - actually there's a '94 FZR1000 sitting on Elizabeth St for sale outside MotaBitz.

Grendal- great to hear that you kept your bike! I know it's gonna need a fair bit of work but as you said... it was in too good a condition (and low km's) to let go of! Definitely let me know how it all comes together, and holler if you need a hand chasing parts or picking something up (i'm in the CBD 5 days a week).
We'll have to organise a decent ride out when everything is back on the road.

I wouldn't have a clue!
The sticker scheme was done by the previous owner. I'm not against it at all so i left it on there. It'll probably get re-decalled at a later date... but for the time being i'm just gonna get a couple of 'koma' stickers made up for the tail.
I've dropped the hint with a few of my mate's that i'm gonna organise call-sign stickers for them as a Xmas present... although the list of people saying 'yeah cool... i want one' is getting bigger and bigger.

Maybe at a later date i'll organise a print run of a few more for some of the guys & girls on here; but for the time being it's just a mates thing.
