After a month of streneous bargain hunting of 250cc bikes, I finally got myself a 2008 CBF250 (quite happy with the price ) She was kept unused in the garage for about 5 months so the battery was completely flat when we tried to start it during inspection yesterday night. But I took the owner's word for it and bought it as a non runner anyhow. Paid deposit almost immediately after and got it transported to Chris's place this morning :hello2: I had a very pleasant experience from the transporter, Seb who stick around after that and helped me to push start the bike in front of Chris's humble abode. Started right away but couldn't stay idle, no funny noises from the engine though. Some details of the CBF250: blue in colour 21k-ish on the clock one female owner before me(I'm the 2nd owner yay ) comes with rusty crash bars over the engine, front end and rear Works need to be done: desperately need new front and rear tyres change of engine oil, filter, spark plugs maybe flush coolant and brake fluid as well +any other problems Chris might find out.....stay tuned *Special thanks to Chris's wife for her kind hospitality of letting us and the bike into the garage Thanks for reading 2fiftycc forumers yong
So I get home tonight and there is a blue bike in the garage, Yong has bought himself a 2008 Honda CBF250 that's fitted with crash guards everywhere I wasn't sure f this was Yongs bike or an extra from the movie Deathrace. Bad Pun Time We all know CBF stands for Cant Be F^%$ED :occasion14: So I turned the key and there wasn't much charge as the headlight was dimming, I pulled the battery out and charged it for 2 hours while I set about removing those ugly crash bars, I also poured in some new fuel and gave the bike a quick wipe down. I refitted the battery and she still wouldn't crank.. so jumper leads to the rescue. She fired right up, it wouldn't hold an idle but on choke it would, I pumped up the tyres and went for a quick run as it is registered, I stopped at a corner and she was idling nicely , I guess it needed the cobwebs blown out of it. I have to say this is without a doubt, the easiest bike I have ever ridden, its smooth as and puts along nicely. You have a great bike here Yong. So what needs doing ? New Front Tyre New Rear Tyre Rear Brake lamp is blown Adjust rear Brake New Battery New plug Fresh oil New Filter and I reckon she will pass a RWC Well Done mate, a diamond in the rough !!!
Talk about crash bar overload! ..... I can remember seeing 'across the engine' front bars back in the day alot but thats just crazy! ......all thats missing are the trainer wheels! :o I think the CBF may have been for Crash Bar Fantasy  It looks like it will brush up well though. Does a bike have to have 2 mirrors to pass RWC? And do u guys up there in the pineapple state still have to display a rego label? Good pickup Yong
+1 extra from the movie Deathrace Wow looks like I left my bike in good hands :hello2: also thanks for clearing my doubt on the bike. i will probably be doing the tires on saturday morning cause it will be pretty late after we finish changing oil and everything tomorrow. I will call mike and julie and let them know i'm going. Hopefully they still have some tires with reasonable price  So I take it the existing battery doesn't hold charge anymore? and what is a rear brake lamp? Is it the same thing as the bulb inside rear lamp? Also it's going to need a new set of mirror too :-[ Thanks a lot Chris.
Hey Yong, Looks like you got great value there. I just got a new front tyre from Mike and Julie at Capalaba this week. A Michelin road pilot 3 will set you back about $200 fitted. Enjoy the CBF.
Thanks Greyimport & Nat. I was a bit surprised the first time I saw it too. crazy eh.. She was owned by a now pregnant lady with an over-protective husband lol. That's why she says anyway just lucky it's clean overall. but I read some review somewhere that says the clutch gasket needs changing every 24000km otherwise it's going to ruin other parts too? Can someone verify this? yong
My recent tyre purchases ..... Bridgestone Battlax BT45 Front : $138.60 + $30 fitting Rear : $167.45 + $15 fitting Fitting included new valve stems and balance No idea why the front fitting was double .... had it done first so didnt complain when it was half second time round. Thats at the local Harley (cough cough) dealer in a large regional NSW town.
Don't worry about the mirrors, you have a set on there now, they came from a Gn250, but they look okay  No more Deathrace :angry4: Chris
Awesome Chris. Thanks for that. How did you manage to take the broken bit out? also Have you looked at forks yet? Do they need new fork seals? Greyimport:Where did you get your tyres from? Did you buy those tyres off the internet and then get them fitted at the local store? Is it cheaper to buy them online? yong
I think it was these guys I was going to buy from online but I ended up buying them from the local bike shop as the price was comparable  http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bridgestone-BT45F-100-80-17-Battlax-BT-45-Motorcycle-Tyre-Sports-Touring-/150793887251?pt=AU_Motorcycle_Parts_Accessories&hash=item231c041e13 Seems like they have a great choice and are in Queensland
the broken mirror was dead easy, I used a set of pliers and it came out first go. Have a chat with Mike from CMC about tyres. You will need : front- 100/80/17 rear - 130/70/17 Plus, he will do your RWC while he is fitting the tyres
Thanks for the link Greyimport. I will call up Mike and see if the tyres prices are comparable here as well aha chris. Can't believe a little bit of touch up makes such a big difference in appearance  looks super sexy now lol :hello2: The mirrors looks sweet too but looks like she's missing the rear foot pegs now. Also does new bike always come with two keys? She only gave me one :icon_scratch: yong
Hey Yong Saw the new bike today, she looks good mate. When buying second bikes you have to be very lucky to get 2 keys, that's my experience. Gave your muffler a little polish, came up trumps. You will need to get some steel wool and go over it again and she should be fine. Hope you get her on the road soon, think you'll have a very reliable bike. Phil
oh my god you guys...she must be one of the most lucky bike ever to have landed in Chris's garage and getting such care from you two. like wow..thanks ;D the manual will be very handy Chris.i was getting the bike specs from redbook which is troublesome at times. this is just perfect  yong
Didn't realise that all that metal came off one bike, talk about over the top. Never seen so much on one bike. Just about guarantee another 10 to 15K's an hour minus all that weight. Having checked it out this morning, I'm certain that with a little elbow grease, she going to look a million bucks. :occasion14: Hope Mike and Julie can help you out with a roadworthy and some new boots, Watch out Brisbane, Yong is just about MOBIL!!!!! Think you got yourself a nice ride Yong, good luck mate.
and she is back at my house  Very nice and quite 45 minutes ride. Although I still miss the grunt and riding position of cibby, I'm hooked to her too. Easy to handle, nice braking and have just enough power to be fun. Thanks chris for getting it ready on the road, teaching me how to change oil, polishing the bike etc.. :occasion14: The best part is that after having you go through the bike and find almost no flaws mechanically, I can focus all my mind on enjoying the ride :hello2: Special thanks to Phil as well. The exhaust is shining y'all. Thanks so much for polishing it for me haha. I thought I could see you over at Chris's place to thank you personally but you left early hehe.. yong
Also bought a CBF 250, really like it. Good bike. Have you done valve clearances of your bike? Do you know if there are good tutorials on the net?
